Savor this Sunday.

10-11-15

This day was a keeper – one to bottle up and recall when February’s bone-chilling temps and not-so-nice snow and ice give you the Winter blahs. When stepping out the door, I felt like the “Pure Michigan” ad should be playing in the background. We are blessed with a second weekend day of beautiful weather, and, if you’re lucky enough to have Columbus Day off, another pretty day is in store for tomorrow. Whether you did yardwork, sat contentedly on the front porch sipping coffee and watching the world go by, or took a Sunday stroll, I hope you got out to enjoy the day.

I decided to leave later than usual and walk around the neighborhood, then head over to the Lincoln Park Farmer’s Market, camera in tow. I’ve not used the camera as much as I had hoped, so I was looking for a few photo ops of goofy-looking gourds or monstrous pumpkins. I knew there would be rows of glass jars filled with jams and jellies, their silver lids glinting as sunbeams hit them, or, the usual assortment of honey that would make Winnie the Pooh salivate. The market didn’t disappoint with its flowers, spooky candles and ghastly ghost wreaths either. The place was bustling, and sales, unlike the weather, were brisk as patrons scooped up the tail-end-of-the-season fruits and veggies from a variety of vendors and perused and purchased homemade baked goodies. It seemed like everyone else, just like me, decided to partake in all that Michigan has to offer and capture the flavors of Fall for their dinner table or holiday decor.

As Bill Shakespeare said: “one touch of nature makes the whole world kin.”

About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

It was beautiful – they have Christmas wreaths already! Same person who does the Halloween items. It is beautiful – tomorrow too, but maybe rain in afternoon. They do have nice veggies.

Yes, just for kicks 🙂 … I just went to “look” not buy at the LP Market this time. I was a “regular” there when my mom was still alive … my mom used to love those beefsteak tomatoes and we would often have BLTs on the weekend so used to get them there a lot. And … she also loved those little new potatoes, so in September when they came out, if we didn’t drive out to Kurdzahl’s to buy those little taters, I’d get them at the LP Market. She liked boiling them up and slathering them in butter.
