On a dismal-looking gray morning, I scooted out the door, not just because I was running a little late, but, a quick glance at the sky made it seem as if a cloudburst was imminent. I missed a walk yesterday, and, really should have gone once the sun came out, but, by then it was hot and humid and less enticing … to me anyway.
This morning, besides a bag of peanuts and my umbrella, I was toting a little treasure that was sure to brighten someone’s day. I was sure no one could miss that neon pink rock in the midst of the gloomy gray setting. Today, it was my turn to hide the colorful rock at Council Point Park. Since I wrote about the rock group, it has grown in leaps and bounds and now has 2,611 members, twice as many in barely a month’s time. It seems that most of these good-hearted souls with artistic abilities are hiding their treasures at Michigan’s many parks. Though I check the site daily, I’ve not painted or lettered any rocks yet, just found one and delivered others. My neighbor Marge, and her granddaughter Monique, painted a half-dozen rocks, and it was my “assignment” to hide their booty of colorful creativity. I dropped off two at Southland when I visited that mall on Saturday, and, this morning I left a hot-pink monster sitting at Council Point Park. I believe that neon-colored gem will soon be scooped up to brighten someone’s day with its goofy, lopsided grin. I even walked around the same loop twice to check if anyone snagged it from the spot in which I left it – but nope, there it still was, even the second time around.
Those painted rocks have beautiful images or messages that are heartfelt, the sentiment may be sweet, but not sappy, or sometimes the words are simple like above. I continue to be amazed about how many artists are in our immediate area. The rock pictured above was painted from a fellow rock group member.
There is a saying that not all treasures are silver and gold. My treasure today was breathing in deep during a brisk walk in some pretty brisk weather for June 5th … I hope you found your treasure today as well.

Miss Linda……………….I walked from 7:30 to 8:30 this morning…………there were only 2 cars when I came. By the time I went around 1x there were a dozen cars……………..I put one right near the gazebo and one way out by the far right end by the creek meeting the other creek at the bend and the third one was by the hockey rink…………by the time I went around 1x I only took a pic of two of the rocks. One was gone already

Hi Ann Marie – I am sorry that I did not reply to you yesterday and I was anxious to see if you did make it down to Council Point Park. I left later than usual on Tuesday morning and would have arrived there same time as you, but at a different loop. I was dropping off another of Marge’s rocks but you might have already been by. I did spot a white rock with an American flag painted on it – very unique and was this one of yours?? It was at the bend by the perimeter path which you described so I am thinking so. I was talking to someone at the time I saw it, and decided that after they finished speaking and I moved on, that I would return and walk that loop again, just to get it, and when I did return the rock was already gone … scooped up and ready to be enjoyed or hidden by someone else. 🙂

It seems as though all of Downriver has caught onto this craze Marge – I see that Ann Marie went to the Park as well yesterday and deposited her rocks … I will tell her I saw the white one with the flag on it and wonder if it was hers. I will be over to get some paint and lettering pens to do a rock or two myself before 4th of July.
