HAPPY NEW YEAR!

2019 greetings

About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Maybe they will impose a fine. Our governor (now former governor as of this morning) permitted the use of big firecrackers for home use about 5 years ago. He said people would drive to other states and buy their big firecrackers, etc. so why not get the revenue for Michigan. Bad idea as they are only supposed to shoot them off last night, Fourth of July and Third of July – that doesn’t happen. They start at Memorial Day (late May) and continue for months and months and now it will be a week before the stash is used up. These are the really big fireworks that make booms you can hear in the next City! I hope they repeal the big fireworks with this new Democratic governor …

The Danes go to Sweden to buy firecrackers and rockets. It is forbidden in Denmark. If they want to forbid it here, I´m not against it, but it´s a bit boring. From this year you must be 18 years old to buy them.

Really – well then the Danes have to stay in Sweden to shoot them off then? That’s what we now have … those big rockets and I’ll go out the next day and find spent firecrackers and wrappers in the front and back yard. A couple of years ago one landed on the roof and burned some shingles. I always am happy if it rains a lot on 4th of July. We had over an inch of rain yesterday so everything was soggy, so likely nothing caught on fire. I don’t know if they have an age limit here – we can just buy the assortment of them at the grocery store. They are not cheap either!
