About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy.     Purple and Yellow, my two favoirtes. I can grow these flowers very easy in my yard. 🙂

    Actually, I would be OK with a bouquet of dandelions and violets from my grandsons for Mothers’ Day. Such a pretty color combination!

    I love the dandelions- they grow here because I got seeds and planted them in my garden – for the leaves.
    A great combination of colours.

      Glad you lived them Susie – they sure are colorful. I see people do pansies in the same purple and yellow combo – it looks very nice in a garden. Are you going to have a flower garden like last year?

        That’s too bad – you enjoyed it – we just heard today we are going another two weeks on our Stay-at-Home/Stay-Safe Order … until May 28th. I hope that the Park is not closed that long, but that was the Mayor … the Governor is encouraging people to walk in parks and get exercise.

        Governor is Democratic and I don’t know about the Mayor – I just Googled around and nothing about that … Mayor was the former police chief and won handily over former mayor (woman). He has shut the parks down due to excessive cases/deaths in our City and people are not paying attention to social distancing. Makes me sad – the walk is the highlight of my weekdays and I go weekends too, sometimes before going to larger parks.

      I’m glad you liked it Yvette. I am really enjoying doing Wordless Wednesday … I got more pictures that I can use for this theme, so I think I will keep doing it.

        right on – I have been using Wednesday for my street shots.
        oh and side note – a pet peeve is when people do wordless wednesday but then write text – that is a no-no – hahah.

        I did use text to insert a YouTube video of a time-lapse video of flowers growing a few weeks ago – it was gorgeous. And then I did another YouTube insert last Wednesday for my singing ducks photo. I had multiple ducks that opened their beaks and it appeared they were singing and I had a song about animals moving to the music. I had to put “click me” … I have enough photos for at least a month for Wordless Wednesday.

    Miss Linda……………………….I’m enjoying “Wordless Wednesday’s”………………………….o’course I’ve seen lots of dandelions………………………………….and I’m calling them: “Johnny Jump Ups”(violets)……………………………I go out of my way to see them in big patches of the grasses………………..just the last few days ago………………………..

      Hi Ann Marie – I like doing the “Wordless Wednesdays” also and have accumulated a lot of pictures so will plan on doing it a while longer. There are dandelions everywhere as I’m walking through the ‘hood. There were lots at Council Point Park last week. I have never heard of violets called “Johnny Jump Ups” … I like that and will remember it. I’ve also seen some small white flowers mingled in with the dandelions too. It was nice yesterday and today – unfortunately tomorrow not so much (nor the weekend either).

      Yes, they were so colorful that day and mixed with the violets … I thought they were beautiful! I gave my mom a bunch of dandelions as a kid, buttercups too. from the field where we neighborhood kids used to play. I never see buttercups these days. I’ve never eaten dandelions and a high school classmate of mine, who is now a judge in my City, told me his whole family got into making dandelion wine and made a lot of it back in the day.

    Purple and yellow are the colors of spring around here. Although I usually think of these colors as the colors of tulips, I like any old flower, regardless of its pedigree.

      I see the yellow and purple combo in pansies and impatiens and they look great together. Tulips too. As promised, I took some photos of the tulips at the church last Friday. All the yellow tulips weren’t out, but we were having that really hot weather last weekend and record cold predicted later this week (hard freeze and possible snow flurries tonight) so I figured I’d better visit and take pictures before they bit the dust.

    I too remember picking bouquets for Mom–dandelions, violets, and her favorite–lily-of-the-valley. The dandelion flower is really quite pretty. But the wimpy, pale stems don’t do them justice; neither do the low-to-the-ground leaves. Somebody needs to work on a hybrid!

      I agree Nancy – I gave them to my mom too and I just wrote my Mother’s Day post and mentioned giving my Mom dandelions … buttercups too. We did not have lily-of-the-valley when I was growing up. I think they’re pretty too but yes, once they get spindly and that white fluff on them, they lose their appeal. A hybrid dandelion would be great!

        Sometimes that happens and I get a red message that says it won’t go thru – it’s odd isn’t it when that happens? Yes we had another record. We had snow flurries at 5:38 this morning and it was a record as that has never happened before. We will be 80 in a few days – Mother Nature is getting too unpredictable. Though the heat will be nice, it is going to cause storms and we’re getting two inches of rain on Thursday.

        Yes, it was that red error message. I thought it was due to my old computer that takes so long to start up. Ok, so this happens to others too.
        Mother Nature is unpredictable these days, especially the weather where you live. Our CA weather is not so drastic but it’s uncommonly erratic here too. It was 85 degrees the other day and today it was 60 and drizzly. But I love rain and the sound of it. I used to love rainy days when I was a student cause it made me want to stay in and read. Sunny days…too tempting to go out and enjoy.

        Yes, it is common Esther. I don’t know why.

        I dealt with rain a lot when I took the bus for decades, so that is why I’m not inclined to walk in the rain. I like a rainy day and can stay in sometimes – that is when I usually do my housework better. I am not the best housekeeper so I do a better job when I don’t go out and walk. I intended to do a nice job on Mother’s Day as it was supposed to be an all-day rain, then it was clear in the morning, so I went out … then have a difficult time changing gears to do domestic things.
