The day was crisp and clear at Elizabeth Park – just look at that bright blue sky! The wind was clipping along with great gusto. Each gust had the flag whipping and flipping around, causing it to rise and fall intermittently. So, I decided the images of the flag would make a good Fourth of July post – after all, 2020 has sure not been normal, so why should this flag be any different?
This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. Miss Linda…………………………actually I play a game every morning when I go for my walk…….. I’ve been trying to guess the wind speed and direction before I pass a mammoth flag on the corner of Goddard and Allen Rd………………………..I look to see if the flag is blowing and from which direction and how hard it’s blowing……………………………………I’m getting better at it……………………….
That is interesting Ann Marie because I know on this day I took the pictures, I left the house and it was 8 or 9 mph wind speed but much greater than that when I got to the Park. That flag was twisting and turning in the breeze. That is the big flag when you enter Elizabeth Park. I got some pictures with trees in the background and some I turned to the side for the sky. I should have had you alongside me and I’d have known and could have included it in this post.
Thank you, Linda. I hope you had a good 4th too. Bill and I went to our community pool. It was nice – members only so it wasn’t too crowded. We found a shady spot under a tree to set up camp and I sat and read.
Oh that’s good Laurie. You definitely needed something enjoyable to take your thoughts away from the week’s events at your house. My holiday was quiet – very hot here. Went to two parks today and came home around 11:30 and it was 87 degrees I think and no end in sight for at least a week.
I hope you had a great 4th Linda. It was hot certainly sunny, hot and dry. We were thankful for the breeze and the pond. Fireworks in our neighborhood started about 10 pm and ended about 11. It sounded like people spent a lot of money on fireworks this year.
It sure was hot Ruth and like that all week – your windmill is working overtime I think! We have had fireworks since May in the neighborhood and they are shooting them off now as I write this. I follow a Facebook site which is neighborhood folks and one guy said he spent $1,000.00 on fireworks. A guy did a drone flyover at the heaviest time of fireworks – looked like a professional fireworks show with the various explosions popping out in the night.
Yesterday the windmill did it’s job. Not much wind today though. We are hoping it can keep up with our water needs as it is supposed to be a mostly dry week also. We have been hearing fireworks on and off since May as well and I have a feeling they are not done yet. I can think of better ways to spend $1,000. 🙂
That’s good – I wondered how the farm and your produce was faring – if it isn’t too much rain, it is too little. I think we have rain beginning Friday and on the weekend so that will help you out. I hear you on that Ruth. Stay cool!

Yes our weekend was great too Shelley. Just perfect today – wish we could keep it like today for a while. I visited four parks yesterday, but went to Council Point Park on Saturday as we had three days of torrential rain, so I figured all the bigger parks would be soggy.
It was nice again yesterday, but today we are into back to back thunder and rain storms. Oh, well, we need the rain and it makes it easier to work, right? 😉
Yes it does make it easier to be inside. We had that three days in a row last week, but in the afternoon or evening, so it did not interrupt my walk, so I was happy for that.
