About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy.     I like daisies. I want to be fresh like one. BUT that might be a dream right now. Lordy, it is hot around here. Stay cool, eh?

      I couldn’t resist using that picture with its dew drops on the petals. I wish I felt like that – like you, the heat zaps my energy. We’ll have a high energy bill. You stay cool too Ally.

    Beautiful daisy Linda! All this heat….ahhhhh! And this has to be the week my blueberries start to ripen. Picking berries in this heat is horrible but worth it in the end…lol

      Oh yes – the heat is terrible and we had two surprise storms yesterday and today … torrential rain both days and hail and high winds today. The blueberries are good eating. I remember you and I comparing notes on freezing the blueberries, as my mom did that for years when they were in season, washing and drying them and freezing them on a cookie sheet in the freezer. We’d have blueberry muffins all Winter. No treat to have blueberry muffins now – now you can make blueberry ice cream!

      Amazing! I’ll send you some heat today or next week when it will be higher (100 real temp, not just heat index). Hopefully no more hail storms for you Margy in your rainy days?

        Second hail storm yesterday. Nothing too damaging so far this season at our place. Another storm rolling in right now. Hail in the forecast. All vehicles safely in the garage…

        I never knew til that post you did on the hail how your weather was there. We had a family friend who moved to Calgary from Oakville years ago, but I didn’t know about your hailstorms. We have had torrential rain three days in a row, plus storms and the light hail but we were in near drought conditions and now Mother Nature turned the faucet on and keeps forgetting to shut it off!

    It’s hot here too! We had some thunderstorms today that I thought would cool us off, but it’s still hot and humid!

      We had two surprise storms, last night and today. Hail and high winds but no relief either. You ran this morning – hopefully in the shade. I’ve been walking one loop at the Park, then only on the shady side of the Park.

      Ann Marie – I know we look forward to Summer in the Winter so I should not complain. Come February I’ll grit my teeth and ask “why did you complain?” Did you get a fairly volatile storm this afternoon? I hoped it would break the heat.

    I remember my mother being given some daisies for transplant. She may have had even less of a green thumb than I do, but they thrived in the spot she chose for them. I think a daisy was the first flower I could identify.

      I think daisies were my first flower to I.D. as well JP. My neighbor gave me daisies and coneflowers back in the 80s – he just pulled them from his yard and plopped them into a hole in my yard … a simple transplant and they thrived for decades until the Polar Vortex of 2013-2014. The weather in that January or February 2014 zapped most of my butterfly garden. I was beside myself.
