Ann Marie – Pretty soon I’ll wonder if the ducks are like the geese and they’re eating peanuts too! I don’t know why the duck was in the snow – that was before I threw the crackers. But it was underneath where the chickadees were feasting on sunflower seeds, so they might have been looking for sunflower seeds. I wish your ducks would return to your pond – not a chance with tonight’s freezing temps.

Yes, they were happy to see me (like Lassie and Timmy). 🙂 I was going to put these into my long blog post on Monday and decided to use them for Wordless Wednesday instead – cuter with snow on the nose (was going to put schnozz and figured no one would know what I meant).

Thanks Tom – the squirrels were all about the peanuts and sunflower seeds … the duck was looking for sunflower seeds that had fallen in the snow. 🙂

This is when they really look for your treats with the snow! I wish you lived closer, I would give you my huge bag of whole peanuts I have. May have to take the grandkids to the Metro Parks with them. Have a safe weekend Linda!

Thank you anyway Diane – you should take the grandkids to the Metro Parks and feed the squirrels there. They’ll love you forever. 🙂 I did walk today and it was just 17 degrees when I left the house this morning and I felt like a popsicle by the time I came home at 1:30! I do wish I’d gotten more sunflower seeds, but since the picnic tables are gone and I had to find another safe place to leave food for them, I figured the seeds would drop into the snow … I didn’t know if the Safe Haven Tree would work – now I know!

Thank you Barbara – those squirrels dig right into their treats and don’t seem to be mindful of the snow on their faces and that duck was funny as he was looking for sunflower seeds that the chickadees might have dropped off the ledge.

I think you’re right Sabine – I told them today “here’s a little extra – I may not make it down here until Thursday.” (We got snow this afternoon and have 3-6 inches of snow coming tomorrow evening and some snow on Tuesday … hope they’re wrong.)

We haven’t had any snow so far this winter. It’s been warm and wet here so our critters are able to fend for themselves. Hopefully you’re spared another snowfall!

We had heavy snow this morning, snow and freezing rain. It was slick on the sidewalk … we are getting the same wintry precip tonight … hope they’re wrong, but I don’t think I’ll get to the Park until Thursday as it might still be too slippery in the street. I feel badly for leaving the critters high and dry as the grass is now snow covered.

We didn’t get the second bout last night so I was able to get to the Park today, only because I walked in the street and then on the grass at the Park. I’d rather have clear, dry roads, but felt sorry for my “following” at the Park who would come for food at the two locations and there is none. I kept testing my footing … it was okay or I would not have attempted to walk. I have a friend who moved to New Mexico and he said he had snow yesterday morning as well – like yours, lasted briefly, then melted. My kind of snow. We’re clear and dry until Sunday night thankfully.

I went again today Sabine and I was the only one in the Park and, by the only one, I mean even the squirrels and birds were not out. It was brutally cold and today there was ice on the path. Yesterday I walked just on the grass, but had to cross the path in two spots, but both spots were crunchy snow. To be honest, if not for feeding the squirrels, I would have stayed in yesterday, but because it was so cold this week, I felt badly for them, because now, feeding them as a group and always in the same location, they are expecting it. Last year I only resorted to the picnic tables under the pavilion roof to leave some extra if bad weather was expected. Today I drove as it was brutally cold and very windy and I thought the car should have a small run. I’m trying not to use gasoline to avoid that interaction at the gas station. But it was clear in the streets so I drove. I walked on the grass and got about a mile in that way … just me, all by my lonesome. 🙂

Oh my, they look so cold! I know nature provides them a warm coat for the winter but I can’t help wishing they also had mittens and boots. I bet they are happy to see you with your treats!

Yes, I feel badly for them too Janis. They sure look cold. Every day I walk past a house and there is a Cottontail rabbit which crouches down in an indentation it has made in the grass. I’m guessing it was a nest at one time. It is there no matter the weather. I wish I could take it some treats like everyone else. We are bleeding hearts Janis!

Yes, they are cute aren’t they? I wish I’d acted on the ducks sooner … it will bug me not knowing what happened to them. I do worry about them in this cold weather and snow and ice. I made it down there today though I didn’t think I would given the wintry precip we have had lately. I walked in the street, then on the grass when I got to the Park. We don’t have snow until Sunday night but very cold at night (tonight 13 degrees). I like that name – I will use it one day and attribute it to you. Last weekend I did my Valentine’s Day cookie shoot. It will be similar to Christmas, but no hats and reindeer antlers this time, just them eating their cookies. I have to do it ahead of time in case of bad weather and not getting down there. I hope to give everyone a smile.

I am only posting twice a week since January 1st, but I still seem to be perpetually behind. The pictures are cute, not as cute as Parker with the huge, heart-shaped sugar cookie last year, but I did get a couple of cute shots. And I took some walnuts at the same time – those were a hit too. 🙂

Blogging takes a lot of time and care! I feel perpetually behind myself. I’m so happy that I can share my world through photos, because if I had to do that all in writing, you’d see very little of me here. Maybe when the kids get a bit older and can do independent work I’ll have more downtime to write. There’s still a lot of lull periods in my day, but I can’t relax; I’m on standby for this and that. When I sit down to do something, I hear “mommy!!” “I’m hungry,” “How do I….?”

Yes, it does take a lot of time and I thought posting less would remedy that, but I get here later and later every night, plus I was staying up until 11 or 12 every night and realized that was just not healthy, so I started aiming for 10:00-ish instead. That’s good, but also less time to respond. I’ve tried responding to just comments one night and just doing Reader the next … so tonight I have Comments and won’t make it to Reader. For me doing Wordless Wednesday is a way to do two posts, yet not write for one, just like you have for your Silent Sunday. I will do three posts this week as I intended to my blogiversary post Monday and instead I had some ice shots at the Park and decided there were too many for Wordless Wednesday, so did it for Monday. I have to make Thursday’s shorter and I have not started doing the Valentine’s post which I hope comes out good. I did look at the photos. Ah, that is sweet, but maybe I won’t be their valentine after today – I didn’t make it to the Park as it was -2 “real feel” and 7 air temp, 25 mph winds and on the radio they said only go out for 10 minutes. They had not plowed or salted and I wouldn’t take my car out in snow if I didn’t have to. Feel badly, but likely they are staying up in their nests, the birds too … this weather is just brutal.

I hear you! I always feel behind in my reader and comments. My longer posts are written over a period of time; that’s why I really like the Flower of the Day, Wordless, Wednesday and Silent Sunday. At least this way I can share my world through pictures and descriptive tags.
I think you’re putting too much pressure on yourself! You put me to shame with your consistency and thoughtful responses, but if you need more time for yourself, your faithful blogger friends will understand!!
Oh my, that is cold! I’m sure your pals were relieved that you didn’t make the trip on a snowy day. They’d much rather have you safe.

Well I wrote another post for Thursday after deciding just to post twice a week and one of those posts would be Wordless Wednesday so just photos. But it is the blogiversary and so I gave myself wiggle room this week and then a post tomorrow. Tomorrow’s would have been the blogiversary early (it is 02/11) but I had the ice shots and some bird and squirrel shots so decided to go with it. I have things to do in the house, but the cold/snow etc. made me decide to just write another post … which I will be digging myself a hole as I have not been to Reader today. My landline phone is messed up again and I spent 90 minutes trying to arrange repair (on the outside … last two times it was squirrels chewing the wires and creating static, then the phone goes dead). I like how you look at things Esther … I bemoaned not going again today as I know they depend on me and cannot forage now with snow and the brutal cold would make the ground frozen … I’ll look at it your way that the squirrels would rather have me safe. I did worry about the slick roads and it was a little warmer today, just single digits real feel when I went outside. Ugh.

Thanks Yvette. That duck was digging for sunflower seeds that had fallen off the ledge where the chickadee was poking at them above. It had snow almost to its eyes at one point! Then I lost my balance shortly thereafter.

Yes, it does. I’ve been leaving the camera at home the last week and will over the next week too due to the brutal cold. It’s too bad as a romp in the snow makes for a sweet photo. I’ve done a “shoot” for Valentine’s Day. Good thing I did it early given the brutal weather – they may stay up in their nests, as will the birds.

Yes, I’m glad I went Yvette – I would have liked to do the snow for a more picturesque setting, but in Winter in SE Michigan you have to roll with the punches. We have this ugly weather and Arctic blast rolling in tomorrow … going to be treacherous Friday morning they say (as of now) and then the big cold spell for four or five days. The four seasons are nice … Winter is fine if there’s not lots of snow if it’s clear and ice free. I ask a lot of Mother Nature … I know.
