About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy.     I love seagulls even when they are stealing my food. We don’t get them inland but along the Jersey coast when on vacation.

      Me too Kate. They glide overhead and always remind me of Summer days along the water. I had three sets of seagull photos that were amusing. This is the last set and I’m sure there will be lots more down the line.

      Thanks Ally. The antics of seagulls and the looks on their faces is priceless sometimes. I was pondering what to call this post and had lots of titles and decided he looked like he was an opera singer.

    Miss Linda……………………………it looks like he is very happy and singing away…………………….his mate??………………………………is wondering what made him so happy??????…………….the warmer weather??…………..hmmmm

      It was funny that day I was watching them Ann Marie. It was at Bishop Park. The looks on each of their faces made me smile. It sure was gorgeous today, though a tad icy at the Park when I was down there. I came back home pretty quickly and walked in the neighborhood where it was snow-and-ice-free. I’d have never thought so much snow would melt, even if it was balmy out there.

    Wordless Wednesday … with a twist.

    Fellow blogger Dave (https://lifeinaword.com/) commented on today’s post entitled “Pavarotti?” by suggesting: “You should ask your readers to submit thoughts on what his companion is thinking. He looks – well – embarrassed, to say the least!”

    Over the course of several shoreline visits to the Detroit River in Wyandotte, I saw enough crazy Seagull antics to use the tagline #Seagull Shenanigans three times.

    When I created this post, I came up with a ton of fun titles to call it, based on the Seagull with its mouth wide open and the deadpan look on the other Seagull’s face. If that wasn’t funny enough, the singing Seagull was wearing a very sheepish grin in the last shot.

    So, among the post titles that sifted through my brain were:

    “The Bad Boys of the Boardwalk”
    “Pennies from Heaven”
    “Catching snowflakes on my tongue”
    “Bad joke or bad breath?”
    “Gulls just wanna have fun” and …
    “That takes a lot of gall, er … gull!”

    So, while Pavarotti the Ring-billed Gull was screeching up a storm – what do YOU think his companion was thinking … is he embarrassed by his gull friend or perhaps he/she secretly covets that voice?

    He’s saying, “this is my spot and I’m not moving.” The other one is is thinking, “Okay, chill out, whatever…” And that’s why the first one is looking so sheepish, all that fuss over nothing. 🙂

    Both expressions are fabulous! One seagull is happy to be at the beach yelling “yahoo!” The other one is like, “please bro, cut it out. Remember we’re in public.”

      Glad you liked this … I get a kick out of seagulls Esther … they have these human-like expressions sometimes, just reading the look in their eyes. I was at the River last week and had a seagull perch not far from me, so got a lot of shots of him/her too for an upcoming Wordless Wednesday in March.
