About Linda Schaub
This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub
A bad feather day — I love it. 🙂

Yes, and they pose so nicely. I follow a UK blogger and he had does some shoreline videos and photos and he featured a Black-headed Gull. Very unique looking.

Me too Mary. Some of those March winds – we are getting 40 mph winds this Friday as March and its frequent high-wind days winds down. I have lost a few hats while walking at the Park – one sailed off my head and over the Creek and caught onto a branch where I couldn’t reach it.

March can really come in like a lion in the northern states! We’re already using the a.c.out here. Sorry about you’re hats!

We had very warm temps again today and have rain all night and winds to 40-50 mph overnight and tomorrow morning. There will be a lot of messed up ‘do, humans and otherwise. 🙂

I’ve never thought about the angst a bird might feel when their feathers are ruffled. Ha!

Yes, especially if they catch their reflection in the water! They need some Birdie Brylcreme – a little dab’ll do ya!

That’s for sure – only a few more days of those high winds too! We have a stormy night/tomorrow, with 40-50 mph winds – yikes! Glad you like the photos and caption for this seagull with its bad feather day.

I think it needs a feather curling iron!

Yes, that would work for sure – tame down those unruly feathers! It was really windy that day. He looked miffed every time it ruffled his feathers.

Poor seagull! I know just how she feels. Bill doesn’t have to worry about a bad hair day – no hair! 🙂

I agree! Our family had pet birds for years. They are so much smarter and complex than many people give them credit for. As to the feathers … the moulting … it used to amaze me, how such a tiny creature had so many feathers. During moulting, it was like someone had a fight with a feather pillow!

It seems like the wind has been blowing all month. and I can identify with the gull. My hair is getting long again so I started putting it up again because it blows in my face. Cute pictures. 🙂

Yes it does – the weather has been mild but really gusty. We’re supposed to get some more rain today – hope that helps you out along with what we got yesterday. I have to cut my hair again – I’ve not been to get it cut since October 2019 … I’m no hairdresser, trimming it at the bottom only.

That’s about the last time mine was cut too. I just trim my bangs. My sister has always cut my hair for me since we were in high school and she went to cosmetology school. Last spring her husband retired and they moved to Tennessee. 😦 I will probably let it grow now until I see her again. Maybe this summer.

I just trimmed, but did not do a good job. And I had highlights 18 months ago and they’ve grown out and I think I’ll just leave it like that. My hair is shoulder length, so I can’t do it myself. I hope you two can re-connect this Summer.
