#Wordless Wednesday – allow your photo(s) to tell the story.
About Linda Schaub
This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub
Another mystery of life! Great observation on your part, lack of attention to detail on someone else’s part.

Yes it was absurd to have that much rust on one knob and a minimal amount on the others. That is a nice park so I am surprised they left it like that?!

Looks like it might be next in line to be removed! (Some others are missing.)

Yes, I believe you’re right Barbara. I wonder if one was to touch the knob, if it would flake out and fall apart?

I was going to say salt water spray is corrosive to metal but then I remembered the Great Lakes are fresh water… They’re always replacing the metal railings at our beach.

I was amazed since there was only one – it looked so out of place!

It is a curious thing. 🙂

Hmmm…only one is rusty but some others are missing!

Yes and I wonder if others notice and complain – it’s a very scenic park. Well it isn’t sea salt spray causing those issues … I’ve never seen so much rust at one spot before!

Miss Linda…………………………………..I’m lost for words………………………I’m sure they ran out of good materials when they were building this nice river gate!

I was lost for words too Ann Marie – surely someone besides me has noticed it and commented on it?!

It does look very rusty……maybe the maintenance people are not details-oriented?

It seemed strange to me to see an entire line of knobs and only one looked so rusty that it might just fall off. Maybe they never put rust preventative on it?

I wonder if the rusty one is made of a different material? Far be it from a manufacturing company to substitute cheaper materials during a run of parts to save a few cents each.

It sure makes you wonder doesn’t it JP? That’s why I made sure to photograph a good portion of the boardwalk.

super clever title for these photos and you really do wonder what happened to make that one rusty – manufacturer defect – or no rustoleum 🙂

Thanks Yvette – glad you liked this post. I strayed from my usual “Wildlife Wednesday” but this one rusty knob just struck me strange.

it really makes you wonder how it go that way – manufacturing defect? or did someone still their coke on it one day when it first went up and that stripped it of a protective layer – or did some bird leave some residue – lol

Like pigeon poop on a statue wreaks havoc and dissolves the cement. I remember that coke experiment which cleaned up an a significant amount of gook and made the penny look like new again again.

exactly.. makes you wonder eh?

Linda, that’s keen observation of those knobs! I think the rusty one is the next to go. I wonder if they get removed or just fall off. If they do fall off, hope it doesn’t hurt anyone.
Hope you’re having a good weekend and keeping cool as we kick off the summer tomorrow. 🙂

Hi Esther – you’re right; if it fell off and went kerplunk, it might injure someone. They are big railings and so are the posts/knobs. We have a stormy weekend with severe weather on tap, so instead of walking in the larger parks this weekend, I scurried to my regular park and right home. I heard it is very hot there too – stay cool Esther. It feels like Summer already – I’m kind of worried what kind of heat Mother Nature has in store for us for Summer.!

Interesting observation – perhaps it was a perch for a few too many birds?!

There’s an idea Shelley. I’ve read bird poop oxidizes some statues, so why not the other inaminate objects too?

I’m guessing that it did contribute!

I could not believe the rust Mackenzie – am I the only one who noticed? 🙂

It really is interesting!! I was wracking my brain for an explanation but I’m not sure what could cause that?!

Me neither as it would seem they’d manufacture the railings/knobs at the same place so they’d all deteriorate at the same rate.

Right?! That’s what I’d think!
