1,000 miles walked!! Congratulations! Well done! You did it!! I’m so proud of you!

Thank you Anne! I aimed to get to this milestone for the first day of Fall and I’m in this National Trails Week challenge to rack up miles walked, run or biked. Biking I could do on the exercise bike I suppose for that Challenge – it is torrential rain now; we’ve had 2 1/2 inches of rain so far and an equal amount to fall in the next 24 hours.

You must be feeling quite soggy.

Yes, it is still raining! I just heard the weather report and in another county, my favorite weatherman reported 5.78 inches of rain and it’s still raining!

Thanks Rebecca – just in the nick of time too as we have two days of torrential rain. My break before going forth again!

Thanks Clare – good thing I stepped up my game as we have had two very rainy days since Tuesday. These homeowners always do something similar on their front porch, so I went looking to see if they had their harvest decor up yet to get a photo before the crummy weather set in.

Thank you Terri – I’m shooting for 1,256 miles which is 2,021 kilometer.
Someone challenged in 2020 to walk as many kilometers as the year and I always try to add one more mile each year. It’s a good thing I passed the 1,000 mileage mark because we have had torrential rain the last two days and more on the way Saturday. We went from temps around 80 to a high today of 52 and a “real feel” of 48. In Michigan, you have to have two wardrobes handy sometimes.

Please be sure to wear the best of shoes. When i worked with the handicapped, many years ago, a doctor there told me that people who walk or run on cement inevitably end up ruining their joints.

Thank you for sharing that info Tom. When I first began the walking regimen, I had a pair of Easy Spirit shoes I had bought years before at a mom-and-pop shoe store. It was a store for “sensible shoes” ranging from babies to adults. They went out of business in 2019, but were a family-run business for almost six decades. So when I needed new walking shoes, I returned and spoke with the owner, an avid walker herself and she recommended “Punter” by Easy Spirit once again. They wear like iron and the soles are incredibly thick. I can wear them a year and see no wear-down on the heels and the shoes are well made. After well over 1,000 miles, I detect a small hole in the sole and then they are relegated to garden shoes. 🙂 I would be concerned about running on concrete though … all that pounding of your feet/bones on the cement while running just can’t be good for you without wearing proper shoes.

Thank you Ann Marie – I did five miles this morning, so 251 miles left to go. At least it was sunny today. Do you keep track of your miles on your smartphone? A woman at the Park this morning was asking me if I knew how long each loop was. She was relying on her smartphone for calculating her mileage and wanted to verify it.

Thank you Diane! Now the hardest part begins = shorter mornings, black ice, wet leaves … hopefully I can get it done though by year end. I am down to 251 miles as I did 5 miles today.

George – I had a much-less-miles-traveled goal until the end of 2019. Up until then I just added ONE more mile each year, but a fellow blogger said “why not use kilometers instead of miles and make the goal match the current year? So I took that challenge in 2020, adding more miles to my original goal. It’s been tough at times though.

Yes – wish I could kick the hawk(s). It was a sunny day today, a perfectly blue and cloudless sky, marred only by the dregs of what’s left of the Harvest Moon and the hawk gliding silently overhead.

Thank you Yvette – I wanted to do it for Fall and I knew we had two very rainy days on the horizon. This year, the weather has impeded my progress several times. I hope to reach my goal by year end (providing we don’t have a lot of snow and ice).

Thanks! I figure the biggest part is behind me now and my biggest push is October as September is dwindling quickly. There are some places in the ‘hood that always decorate and this house is one and they have the same cast of characters, plus mums and pumpkins every year. I thought I’d better head there before the two days of torrential rains last week decimated the nice Harvest decor.

Thanks Janis – In my mind I set private goals but don’t share them in case the weather makes me fall short, so I was happy that I reached 1,000 miles by the first day of Fall. That goal gives me something to stride and strive for!
