About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy.       I made sure I walked back and forth a few times to create them for this post JP. 🙂 Are you in this group of 90 million persons having undesirable weather today? Our forecast for 18 inches of snow fell short due to a late start, but we are getting an inch of snow an hour.

    footprints are like a metaphor for our lives, we make our mark while here and then no more tracks.

      Our weather has been pretty nice the last few days – I knew that would end today with this storm and it is heavy snow on top of it … will take a LONG time to melt as it has ice in it.

        It got a late start as it stayed rainy for a long time – but now it is snowing an inch an hour … the kids had no school today and tomorrow.

        You’re wishing you were there! Well Wayne, we did not get 18 inches of snow over two days as it was too warm in the beginning, but we did get six inches yesterday and today it is snowing like crazy and has been all afternoon so they say we’ll get another four inches. That snow was heavy as it had water/ice in it. And the plow came by overnight and I have a mess at the end of the driveway.

        the best packing snow is when the freezing temperature is within a few degrees. If It’s minus 25 there is no moisture and so it’s a dryer snow.
        So when you say the snow is heavy, that tells me your temperature must be close to the freezing point. Perfect snowman weather!

        Yes, yesterday was really heavy and wet – good snowman-making weather. We had almost four more inches last night, but the 25 mph winds caused that snow to blow and drift. Sometimes it was almost up to my knees – other times you could see the grass through it. Even the snow is crazy these days.

    Linda……………………………….Mr. Ground Hog will be mixed up with our weather report just like the shoe pics are…………………….and we are too…………..BUT…………………I know for sure there will be no sun!!!

      That’s for sure Ann Marie – our snow finally started after its slow start. I thought it was funny that Woody the Woodchuck got a reprieve in her forecast until Saturday due to the snow. 🙂 She is actually more accurate than Punxatawney Phil.

      Wow – I had heard you would be getting the brunt of this storm Diane. Well, we were supposed to get 12-18 inches of snow, starting from 5:00 a.m. today through Thursday at 10:00 p.m. But we had rain until mid-day, so the early forecast kind of fizzled out. But around 2:00-ish, the snow began and we are supposed to get an inch an hour through tomorrow morning – heavy snow. Someone up there please turn it off!! Do the grandkids have a snow day tomorrow? They cancelled our schools for today/tomorrow – an actual “snow day” with no virtual school either.

      We have a Winter storm out there right now Esther – it was supposed to start this morning, but was dragging its feet and raining instead. We WERE supposed to get 18 inches of snow, but they have tamped that down a bit, but we are getting an inch of snow an hour until dawn, then a couple of inches Thursday afternoon.

        What fierce weather!! I can see why you’d want constant updates from the weather channel. Stay safe and well with the wet and slippery roads. Yikes…Punxsutawney Phil has predicted 6 more weeks…hang in there!!

        February has been crazy Esther! I did get out today as I could leave later and they salted and plowed the streets, but not at the Park. Luckily a truck had collected garbage and drove on the path, so I could walk in the tire tracks. We have a groundhog in Michigan too, a female named Woody. She is more accurate than Phil and she predicted six more weeks of Winter as well. They did not let her go on on Groundhog Day due to the snow storm and we had a sunny day yesterday too. Sigh.

    We are forecast to get all rain here in SE PA. Whew! That darn Punxsutawney Phi saw his shadow. 6 more weeks!

      We were supposed to get 18 inches of snow from this morning at 5:00 a.m. until Thursday at 10:00 p.m. We had a lot of rain, so the snow got a late start around 2:00 p.m., so is now supposed to be falling at an inch an hour – heavy snow too. Ugh. Yes, Punxsutawney Phil needs to return to his burrow! Our weather prognosticator (Woody the Woodchuck) is a female and they rescheduled her appearance to Saturday. She is actually more accurate than Phil. I am ready for Spring Laurie and it had cleared up so nicely from the last wintry mix … perfect for walking.

    Linda, take care in all that snow you’re getting. They’re predicting ice which could knock out power lines for us. Definitely a day off tomorrow for most people here.

      Thanks Rebecca – we got less than the 18 inches of snow predicted (six yesterday and another four today), but what we got was wet and very heavy. I left the part where the plow dumped at the end of the driveway as it was high and heavy. I worried about the ice on the wires and trees, then the heavy snow but we were unscathed … I hope you don’t lose power, plus that the ice does not make further damage than was already sustained from the tornadoes at your favorite park.

        Ten inches is a lot of snow! Though burdensome, I bet it is also beautiful. Our trees and bushes are covered in ice. Our power went out about 10:30 this morning and was finally restored tonight about 8:30. It was a cold day without electricity. Really makes you appreciate having it and those who have to get out in the cold to restore it.

        Yes, it was beautiful Rebecca. So pretty in the backyard with no shoveling done there. We had a lot of drifting, as we had 25 mph winds yesterday, so I had some drifts up to my knees and other places I could see the grass! That is a long time with no power – I worry about that in Winter and pipes freezing too. I was reading Accuweather’s long-range weather prediction for the U.S. for Spring and beyond and it was not good – in fact, I was sorry I looked at the story as I’m a weather worrier.

    Time to turn around! 🙂 Hope you’re weathering the storm all right and you haven’t lost power. It’s supposed to start raining here this morning and turn into freezing rain overnight. Maybe finishing off with snow. They’re not sure. Please let us know how much snow you do get!

      Thanks for thinking of me Barbara and I weathered part one of this two-part storm okay … because of the late start of the snow due to the warm temps (warm for about 20 hours only), we only got six inches of snow Wednesday, but it is snowing hard now and we’ll end up with another four inches of snow overnight tonight and back in the single digits. It was the heavy, wet snow – not my favorite and the plow came by in the wee hours of the morning, leaving a big mess at the end of the driveway. Everyone in the area is talking about how our “Snowmaggedon” was a big fail and the weathermen were all wrong … I don’t envy your freezing rain which will mess up any walkways you have. I bemoan the fact that it was so clear and dry after our multiple wintry mix events … now this. Hope you don’t lose your power – that was a big worry for me due to the ice prediction, then heavy snow..

        Snow plows leaving a big mess at the end of the driveway is the bane of my brother-in-law’s existence! The stories he tells! Makes me kind of glad to live in a condo where I don’t have to worry about that, but then there are other times I do wish I had my own private property.

        I dealt with it this morning – we had some nice sunshine yesterday and it softened the snow, so I got out there, but it was still heavy with ice from the driveway and road. I don’t blame your brother-in-law for being mad. I doubt I’ll ever move, but will ensure I am on the sunny side of the street (the snow often never melts while others have clear driveways and porches the same day) and not on the side of the street where people park! When I walked around that condo complex I thought how nice it was that everything is taken care of for you, but I do see what you are saying too.

      The worst part of Winter is out there now Ally. We did not get our predicted 18 inches of snow over these two days since we had warm temps Wednesday morning … we did get six inches yesterday, but another four inches is expected by tomorrow morning and snowing like crazy now. The single digits and high winds make it even more enjoyable – NOT!

    “Fun with footprints!” We got at least a foot out of this storm (assuming it’s the same one as yours). A footprint in a foot of snow doesn’t look nearly as nice as yours do 🙂

      Glad you liked my footprints Dave! It was kind of slushy when I took those photos. Your footprints would be lost in a foot-high snowbank. We do have the same storm … they said 90 million people would be affected by this storm – amazing! We were supposed to get 18 inches of snow between Wednesday and today, but our temps were warm Wednesday, so it rained and we had freezing rain before the snow arrived. We’ve had six inches of snow yesterday with another four inches of today’s snow. It’s snowing like crazy right now. 🙂

      Thanks Yvette – I thought you might get a kick out of this title. Last week was just no fun weather-wise, but I certainly was not the only person dealing with the Winter woes. I thought I’d do something fun to perk up everyone’s Winter blahs!
