Marching on in March #Wordless Wednesday #February weather woes

About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

I wonder, can I give up self-denial for Lent? Perhaps not.

After our horrible February, we’ve had three days in a row that were beautiful, sunny and ice/snow free. We’re getting to 65 on Sunday, shoveling Monday (if they are correct). Seize the day while it is good weather and get the steps in!

Walking more during Lent seems like a better idea than giving up walking for Lent. I hope the weather cooperates with you. It’s sunny and warm here today. Soon it’ll be the same where you are.

I’m sure your walking regimen will return very soon. Spring is coming!!! We’re getting closer every day.

It was actually a winning weather day today Laurie – sun, dry, not all that cold. It can stay like this the rest of the Winter in my opinion. We’re getting to 65 Sunday, but maybe shoveling snow Monday – yes really. Hope they’re wrong!

This is the first week without a mid-week storm in what seems like centuries but is probably only February. It’d lovely this week, the kind of weather I can hold on to. There are predictions for winter weather again this weekend but I plan to live in denial.

We’ve had some nice weather too – in fact I have not had that many days strung together to walk since December. We are getting very weird weather Sunday – sleet to begin the day, some snow showers, then 65 degrees. At least the snow will melt. 🙂 I will live in denial too – that makes it tolerable.

  11. Now that was a perfect post for you Linda. I decided to give up vegetables. 😂

Thanks Diane – I was defiantly marching and I think I brought myself some luck as I’ve walked every day since Sunday (after whining about it). 🙂 Really – vegetables? They’re your favorite! I gave up chocolate (those dark chocolate squares) and playing online Solitaire and Word Wipe. That’s a concession for me – they’re all good for my well being.

yes – do not give up the walking – and you know how my post had the topic of taking life easy – well you truly model that approach – your stride is light and easy as you walk and get your nature and animal fix!

My mileage numbers are down for sure Yvette. Yesterday was gorgeous out – 60 degrees, which is not normal at all for us, but it was windy, 50-60 mph gusts and it was recommended to not even step outside unless you absolutely had to. This morning it rained – we may have some snow tonight, but just on lawns. I do have some rain boots that I bought and found them no support, so I got a pair of weatherproof walking shoes and a pair of low weatherproof walking boots after we had so many rainy days the past two Springs. But we also had some torrential rains – the kind that you look outside and are glad you have a home. I don’t want to get too far behind as I have such a lofty goal (for me anyway).

we have had a lot of wind too – yuck. It sounds like you did a lot of experimenting for the right footwear for the elements
Also, I know you want to reach your awesome goal, but the walking is also a joy for you so I bet it is a little feeling unplugged if you have too many days without enough steps!!

More windy days in the Winter than I ever remember before Yvette – there’s the old adage about “March winds” but this has been a constant issue all Winter. That and ice, another issue that is usually found more in March. I’ll be glad for this Winter to end. I have to start getting out more in the rain, having bought the footwear, especially just a shower. Yes, I hate when weather impacts my walk – my daily joy and time to get out gets snuffed out by Mother Nature.

  13. I don’t observe Lent in that fashion, but I would never give up a good walk, Linda! It’s so necessary for our sanity, right–keep Marching in March!

Terri – I decided to put that because I had whined a lot about how my February walks were continually messed up due to the ice and snow. We had many ice storms – so many that my driveway was covered in ice and the snow plow plowed me in more than once – my car didn’t get out of the garage for a month. We do need these nature walks for our sanity. Walking and then starting a blog about my walks a few years later were the best things I have done for myself.

I’m sorry Barbara – I hate when that happens and a nice comment is out there floating around in cyberspace. I looked for it in SPAM, but it wasn’t there either.
