Snow and flowers – Spring in the midwest!

Yes pretty much the norm these days for us Midwesterners and after a warm/hot weekend coming up, we’re getting a little more snow next week. Hope that’s not the case for you too JP.

This is the third Spring in a row for all this rain. I hate when it happens on the weekends especially. Last year I did a series of posts called “Seize the Day” where I went to all my weekend (larger) parks during the week before I started work. I could do that since the sun is up earlier and IF it was sunny.

It is pouring out now and starting to thunder. Now they say mid-morning Saturday before the rain stops … 3/4s of an inch of rain will sog up the trails.

You’re right about that Rebecca. The flowers were perky though it was just at the freezing mark when I was there. These were flowers from the Botanical Gardens. They planted them in big planters. They had some in the ground too, but they looked a little weatherbeaten. 🙂

Yes, Spring is getting lots of pushback from Winter these days Peggy. We have a weekend warm-up in the 70s, maybe 80 on Sunday, then very cold and another chance for snow next week. I could have kept my pictures for then! This was at the Botanical Gardens. Their in-ground Spring flowers looked a bit weatherbeaten. These had been planted in big planters the day before, so I hurried up there as I knew the snow was coming.

Well, I don’t like snow, but I feel sorry for you with your Spring tornado weather Peggy – that’s been horrible for you the last month or so with all this tornado activity. Stay safe.

That’s terrible Peggy – I would have thought only half that amount from what I hear on the news. I hope they are done soon for you. Our tornado season is April through July/August. I’m dreading it.

We have tornadoes clear into September. I am a girl who grew up in the West and would rather be living out there. There are very few tornadoes out in the Western U.S.

That many tornadoes would make me nervous Peggy as I am a weather worrier. We have this weekend with two days of 80-degree temps. Told myself that would bring not only the thunderstorms they predicted, but worse and now severe weather after 4:00 tomorrow.

Thanks Joni – this was at the Botanical Gardens. The volunteers planted them the day before in big planters. Their in-ground flowers looked wobbly and a little weatherbeaten. It was 32 degrees on Easter Sunday when I took these flower shots.

What a roller coaster! We are visiting our son and his family in Colorado right now. Today, it was 70 and sunny. The day after we arrived – snow! Crazy weather.

And I remember one year you drove to Colorado for Easter and had a snowstorm and dicey conditions as you set off to drive home. We have a very warm weekend, then the bottom falls out and we have wintry weather again one or two days next week. Enjoy your stay in Colorado Laurie.

Your lows look good despite your rollercoaster of highs, Linda. Here in Colorado, it’s always a gamble on when to flow water back into our sprinkler system without the risk of frozen pipes. Our forecast says I should still be hose-watering the grass, sigh.

That’s rough Dave. I know you have a large piece of property. For years I used to turn the outside faucets on around Mother’s Day as that was when I bought the annuals, hanging baskets, etc. since the best selection was then. Now the water goes on Memorial Day weekend and off by Labor Day weekend as we’ve had a hard freeze in early September.

We had the same thing here, warmer on Christmas Day than on Easter Sunday. Trippy, but annoying if you want to accomplish anything outside.

Same here Linda! I am hoping to get the yard and porch furniture out of the pole barn this weekend. Time to clean out the ponds and get them going. Oh my, I need to get better before surgery!!!!

Too much to do – so little time Diane. Today it was hot … we went from the frying pan into the fire. Tomorrow possible severe weather as it’s so cold. You don’t know what is next. Do you have to treat the gazebo with wood preservative every year like people do with wooden decks?

It’s the same here, I never know what to wear on any given day anymore. Love all the bulbs blooming and the squirrel nibbling his breakfast on the snow-covered grass.

I was overdressed today for the 78 degrees and it will be 80 degrees tomorrow. Then we get some potentially severe weather from the heat spoke. I think I’d rather have the cold weather back (although I think that is being fickle on my part).

We are sharing your weather. I’ve actually had the air on part time the last couple days and yet we had frost warnings in the earlier part of the week. We’ll be back in the thirties overnight toward the end of next week. It has been another weird spring.

Very weird weather! We had that two-inch snowfall on Monday into Tuesday and yesterday and today got to 79 or 80. It was stinkin’ hot and I said I would not complain about the heat after such a cold, snowy Winter and cool, rainy Spring. It did not help that my car A/C leaked and it was like a hothouse in the car. I told them when it happened late Summer “I’ll just have it done in the Spring.” Calling him to schedule soon, though we are back in the 40s again all week. We have potential severe weather later today. Mother Nature’s antics are wearing everyone out from coast to coast.

Yes, this new normal is just plain crazy Esther. We got to 82 or 83 yesterday and tomorrow night we have a hard freeze and the chance for a little snow. Pure madness!

Our weather is crazy – supposed to start snowing shortly and a real feel of 20 tomorrow morning. I feel for the people with flowers which likely won’t make it and the blossoms on trees may freeze. We had that one year and Michigan is a big producer of cherries and apples and we lost a lot of those crops that year.

We’re having water restrictions placed in CA. and I wonder how that’ll affect agriculture and farmers. There was some rain but not enough.

When we were in a serious drought years ago, it was wild with people stealing water and people posting shame pics of people “allegedly” abusing water usage. Whew, it gets ugly.

I am on Twitter and that is to follow some nature photographers or parks I visit, but mostly for the weather reports. We have one meteorologist who is diligent about Tweeting out up-to-the-minute info whenever we have severe weather. He is the meteorologist for the Detroit Tigers as we have an outdoor stadium – he makes the decisions for cancelling games. Anyway, for me this is good as I don’t have TV and though I have a radio to hear my all-news station, this same station covers a lot of sports teams in the evenings/weekends, so that preempts regular programming. Anyway, people on Twitter are just shameless sometimes what they post and when they criticize each other. I have no words for what people say to others under cover of a profile pic and/or anonymous-type name.

Twitter is good to keep up with pop culture, trending news stories, but some of the stuff on Twitter is filth and people are so critical of one another. If not for the weather, nature sites and news, I would be gone as well. No telling if Elon Musk’s purchase of it is good or bad. He is planning on taking it public in a few years.

Every topic becomes fair game for criticism and lashing out at one another – yikes! I am on Instagram but only because a fellow blogger began a walking regimen a few years ago and like me, she began a diary of sorts of what nature she saw. She’s very good and uses her phone. I’m not familiar with how Instagram works, so I’m not on it much. Twitter for weather and nature and Facebook is a rabbit hole you can go down and never come back out again so I limit myself there – should use a timer! 🙂

Crazy weather. It makes it hard to plan what to wear, doesn’t it? Also hard to schedule your closet clothes swap (I assume you do that every season, or at least twice a year). Feel free to send any unwanted rain our way 🙂

It is sheer madness Janis. We had 82 or 83 yesterday and it dropped 30+ degrees today and tomorrow night is a hard freeze and chance for snow. I have not been doing the official clothing swap for the last few Spring seasons as I was still wearing a hat, even gloves and sweats almost to May for morning walks, but for random warm days I have two wardrobes on the go in Michigan. Will do – it rained most of today. Sigh.
