Funny photo.

It sure isn’t the look for the usually pristine, pretty and graceful swan.

Yes, right!

Could be an “I don’t get it” reaction to a comment from his mate. Our dog cocks his head the same way when he’s curious.

It could be that although it was the only swan in the marsh at the time. Its mate may have been in the reeds or underwater. I love the head tilt in any species, domestic or otherwise. The brain gears are working overtime, or like you say Dave, your dog is curious. Our family had pet birds over the years and I would see both our parakeets and canaries do the head tilt .. sometimes if a new food/treat is introduced. I suspect this swan was digging in some muddy waters to have its head and neck that dirty and likely got a stiff neck from doing so.

What is going on with that…goose??? Swan??? Is it a juvenile who has molted half of his baby feathers? Great caption!

Hi Laurie, no, it was large, so I assume an adult Mute Swan. It must have been digging with its beak for aquatic plants way down in a muddy lagoon bed to get that dirty. I saw it in a marsh. Its neck was filthy from mud, so I’m guessing that’s why its neck was a little misshapen and its foot was sticking out. Strange pose for this swan and I almost didn’t use it, but it was unique, so I did. Gad you like the caption!

That makes my neck hurt 🙂

I agree Janis – ouch! If the pose wasn’t bad enough, I think it was foraging in the lagoon bed and some of them are pretty murky, so that’s likely why its neck was crooked and muddy.

There was a crooked goose who swam a crooked (nautical) mile?

Ha ha – yes JP, I think this bird was upside down foraging in the murky waters of the lagoon and got filthy. Its neck probably got twisted and dirty from repeated foraging. It sure is not at all like the image we are used to seeing.

He’s cute but he seems dizzy, LOL! Maybe a little ungainly with some ugly duckling still inside 🙂

He sure is not the image we usually see is he Terri? I know their heads and necks get brown tinged from foraging the creek or lagoon bottoms, but this was ridiculous. I suspect too much foraging and pretty much standing on his head did him in as to posture and good looks. 🙂

A heck of an awkward pose, for sure!

I know – kind of ungainly for such a graceful and usually pristine-looking swan!

At first I didn’t think it was a swan! Loved your caption Linda!

Thanks Diane – glad you liked the caption. I like trying to come up with a funny caption for the funny pics. It sure doesn’t look like the beautiful, graceful and pristine-looking swans we are used to seeing. This one must have been digging on the lagoon muddy bed.

It did not go to SPAM 🙂 Yes, it was pretty funny looking Shelley. Maybe if was not crooking its neck at such a strange angle, or kicking its foot, but that brown neck just was not appealing at all!

Ha ha – now you had a totally different take. 🙂 I do sometimes see them paddling along with one foot and the other foot stuck out behind their body or tucked up in their feathers. It’s an odd look to be sure.

Yes, maybe it’s a terrier that looks like a swan. 😉

I hope it was worth it getting all muddy! Lol

I know it – surely those aquatic plants in the marshy bed can’t be all that tasty to contort your body and end up with a dark brown neck. 🙂

Thanks Ally! The “Whimsy” part of my blog title. This poor swan has nothing going for it in this picture. I think it was digging for aquatic plants in the marsh bed; hope it was worth getting a stiff and dirty neck for. 🙂
