BADGES

🤣😂 That expression on the first photo and the next one of it looking down is perfect for the title!

Glad you liked this Shelley – I had never heard of stand up paddleboarding until following Terri and I thought this goose looked like it was standing on a paddleboard. I did look like he/she lost its paddle too!

Yes, I did. It was very clever of you to make that fun connection to paddleboarding. I tried paddleboarding once when we were in Jamaica. The water is warm there so falling in isn’t too bad if you can’t get the hang of it. I think a duck would do much better than I could do. 🤣

Ha ha – well I am not the most coordinated person and I don’t know how to swim, so could not do paddleboarding if the water was deep. I went snorkeling once but that was fine as the water was not deep and lots of fish were there.

It’s best you skip that hobby then. 😉 I tried snorkeling once and it scared me too much – I could hear myself breathing and it freaked me out. 😂

Yes, you are right. I’d be a goner for sure! It was a weird feeling with the snorkel on … if I remember correctly, we had to sign a disclaimer of some type in case of any breathing difficulties before they hand you the equipment. Yikes!

Yikes – that’s exactly when I turned in the snorkel and said, “I’ll watch from the shore on the comfort of that lounge chair!” 🤣

I’ve never tried this before, but here’s a photo of the day we went snorkeling – these were friends of the family that I traveled to Spain with for 3 weeks in 1974 and this was in Puerto Rico where they lived. I visited them in 1973. I just sent the link which may go to your SPAM but it shows up in the comment.

Thank you – that’s a great photo! That’s so fun that you traveled and have photos to remember it by. I retrieved the link, thank you again!! 🥰

I knew I had that photo and since we were discussing snorkeling, I figured I’d send it – the picture was a normal size … I have no idea why WordPress compressed it like that. Alphonsa was almost a foot shorter than me – she always wore heels … we looked like Mutt and Jeff (from the old comic strip) … her husband was taller than me, so they looked very mismatched.

WordPress has it’s way with things doesn’t it! 🤣🤣
I noticed the height difference. I actually chuckled to myself as it looks like what it would be if you and I were in a picture together. I’m 5’3.5″ so we’d look sort of like Mutt and Jeff too.

My father was 5′ 3″ and my mom was 5′ 2″ so when I went out to dinner with them, or in pictures standing with them, it looked pretty odd. Same with my grandmother – I grew taller as she shrunk down, but she was short to begin with. You’re right we would look like Mutt and Jeff for sure.

I still smile when you tell me how tall you are compared to your parents. I would treasure a photo of you and I together – it would make me smile too!! 😍

Is that like “up the creek without a paddle?”
LikeLike
Yes – a fellow blogger enjoys stand up paddleboarding (a water sport I had never heard of until following her) and sometimes posts pics of herself. The look on the goose’s face made me think of “up a creek without a paddle” so where do I go from here?

Such attitude! Those birds are expressive… even without a paddle.

Ally, I think every goose I meet (even the young ones) seem to have an attitude. This one was standing on a ledge in the water and first, the look it gave me, then dismissed me by looking into the water – typical goose behavior. 🙂 I thought of Terri right away since she is the only SUPaddleboarder I know.

Ahhhhh, clean water! I don’t care I dropped my paddle.

Ha ha – yes, you’re right Teri. He/she could easily see that paddle, but using a beak to retrieve it was a whole ‘nothing story!

Ann Marie, I am sure that goose was looking at me, hoping I’d retrieve his paddle for him! That was down at Dingell Park in the cove.

Cute! Luckily his feet are as big as paddles 🙂

Glad you liked it Terri. I thought you might get a kick out of this goose standing on the rock like he was SUPing. Those wide webbed feet can take him anywhere!

Thanks Dan – I’ve been lucky to get some fun bird photos this Summer. I’ve been doing the Wordless Wednesday posts consistently since March 2020 and I am having fun using unusual or fun shots for that feature.

Fortunately, they come with their own set of paddles… unlike us humans.

You’re right about that Janis – those big feet are pretty powerful. Even the goslings have big feet in proportion to their bodies.

Thanks Laurie! The goose had such a deadpan look that I had to find a fun caption to go with the photos … that ledge it was standing on makes it appear it is sinking into the water! I’m having fun with these Wordless Wednesday posts.

Those geese always look agitated about something – you’re right Diane, it is like they are ready to pick a fight because I looked at him/her. 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the captions … that is half the fun of these Wordless Wednesday posts for me!

We fed the ducks in Momence and then saw a sign saying “Do not feed the Waterfowl.” Oh, well! I fed them sunflower seeds (which are nutritious and very healthy).
LikeLiked by 1 person
Tom, I see that sign in some of our parks too, especially the Metroparks – they probably are trying to discourage bread and crackers, but they don’t even allow you to give peanuts to the squirrels. I was at Lake Erie Metropark once very early in the morning and saw a car stop and dump out a bucket of corn for the deer. The ducks and geese at Council Point Park like to eat peanuts and sunflower seeds – they swipe them from under the birds and squirrels’ noses. 🙂

Thank you Esther! Mr./Ms. Goose had quite a deadpan look at me before looking for its paddle to finish standup paddleboarding. Glad you liked the title too. 🙂

It gave you quite the look!
Linda, we fed peanuts to our neighborhood squirrels yesterday and they had a feast. They are busy and about these days.
Have a great weekend…

I seem to get a lot of the those critter looks lately – I’ll blame it on the weather. 🙂 I thought of your family today as I was at a duck pond. I visit there sometimes and today some kids were feeding the ducks (although it was pita bread, not oatmeal or corn, sunflower seeds, etc.) There werer about 25-30 ducks all vying for the bread. The kids were ecstatic feeding the ducks – the ducks were ecstatic getting treats. 🙂 A post for sometime in Winter … I am so backed up with sorting photos right now.
Also, watch that skunk (Bert?) … we have had some skunks with rabies … they discovered three skunks with rabies after they bit dogs and the dogs were okay but had to be treated for rabies – yikes!

Oh yikes, thanks for letting us know about skunks and rabies. Didn’t even think about that possibility.
The weather is giving all of us the blues. I love summer but the heat is too much and fall sounds really nice about now.
We miss feeding the ducks at the pond, but we have a new bag of oatmeal in the garage for them. At a nearby Target parking lot, someone usually comes and feeds bread to the birds. But yesterday we saw geese… all of them were geese, about 35-40. Their size comparison to birds is dramatic!!

I thought I would mention it to you – it does not mean your skunk friend Bert is rabid – hopefully not. Your weather, with this tropical storm is pretty scary. I read/heard this is the first tropical storm of this type in 100 years … SMH with our new norm for weather!
