Indeed! They were in a hurry weren’t they? (Why did this comment go to SPAM – you are not a spammy person in the least and neither is this comment.)

I don’t know. I check spam regularly. Maybe spam thinks it recognizes me.

I was told to “close comments after 30 days” and that really helped. There were days I’d get 40-50 spams; other days it would be up to 250 spams. It was ridiculous. I rarely get them now.

That’s great that your spam has almost dried up.

Yes, someone told me to close comments … I was reluctant to do that as I sometimes show someone a prior post or link to it, but this is better than all the spam.

Thank you Dave! They seemed to take to the sky so quickly, I took a chance getting their photo and was happy to see the image on the computer screen. That would have been a great title for this post!

Wow, Linda, this is a great photo of the birds flying! It’s hard to take a good shot of the birds’ faces when their moving fast.

Thanks Esther! That was a lucky shot for me. I heard them and then they were gone in a heartbeat. I was happy to see I got them when I saw the image on the computer screen. And one bird’s bill was open – was he/she telling the other ones where to veer off perhaps?

I find so many surprises when I look at the image again, after the picture is taken. Remember that one time I thought a vulture was picking on a piece of thrown away carpet? Only to see later that it was a deer carcass.

Yes, because in real time you are just looking thru the camera and can’t see everything else. I was really happy to see this trio of geese on the screen and one even had it mouth open. I remember twice taking pictures of the Lotus Beds, then going thru photos later, on two occasions, then seeing Wood Duck babies on the screen. I remember your post and it would be shocking to hone in and see it was deer carcass.

You saw duck babies?! It’s always a treat to get pictures like that.
I know…we were all horrified to see that it was a deer carcass. We went back a year later and in another spot we found another deer carcass. We knew what it was when we saw it this time, although the camouflage can make you miss it easily. It’s a trailed park path, but it’s a protected wildlife sanctuary with rigged hills. I guess that’s part of the wildlife food chain.

That wildlife food chain is hard to take sometimes isn’t it Esther? I hope I never see a hawk snatch up one of my furry friends. I was walking one day in the neighborhood, several years ago and I heard a horrible screeching noise. I looked up and saw a Peregrine Falcon in pursuit of a medium-sized bird. That bird was shrieking its head off. I wish I had not looked up – the noise continued, then stopped I assume when the Falcon got his prey. Were we following one another when Grady, my cute gray “neighborhood squirrel” and his friends became prey for a hawk in the ‘hood? I asked my neighbor if he’d seen Grady and was sorry I asked … it was in the Spring of 2020, early on in the pandemic and my neighbor was home and saw the hawk in the tree eyeing the squirrels which I fed on my porch. I was especially partial to Grady.

Oh my, the food chain is cruel, and to think that’s how it life continues. It’s terrible to hear animals shrieking…we heard a mama bird shrieking when a cat stole off with a baby bird. The commotion and the shrieking was sad.
I hope you never see a hawk snatch up one of your furry friend!! My goodness, that would be difficult to erase from one’s mind. I do remember you mentioning how Grady, whom you had just fed, became the hawk’s meal.

Yes, it is. I follow a Facebook site where photographers post pictures from our State’s 13 Metroparks. I see a lot of waterfowl with frogs and fish in their mouths, where the prey is still wiggling. Someone posted a Hawk with a vole. Ugh. But as you say, I don’t know those critters/prey. It upset me about Grady and I hope I don’t see it at the Park – ever. This Spring a male Red-winged Blackbird dive bombed me, coming closer and closer to me as I walked along the path. The first time I thought it was jumping the gun for a peanut – they swoop down, as do the Jays, Cardinals and Woodpeckers, so I thought that was why … but then I saw something laying on the path ahead. As I got closer I realized it was a dead baby bird, almost fully feathered. It knew I didn’t kill that bird, but I guess it didn’t want me near it and I assume it was his offspring. So I gave it wide berth and another walker saw me later on the path and said the first time around the walking path, the Blackbird did the same thing to him … he chose to walk around a second time. I did not and went to the other side of the Park to walk. It was sad to see this father protecting its young, even in death. Th body was gone the next day.

Thank you Linda – that was a lucky shot for me. The seemed to come out of nowhere, so I fumbled to take the shot and was happy to see it wasn’t blurred on the screen. 🙂

You’re so right Ally. In the Spring I wondered if I could get enough bird pictures, or critter pictures, to use for Wordless Wednesday until the end of the year. So far, so good and most of them are birds. I have a few more bird posts to do until year end. This was a lucky shot for me – I figured they’d be a blur, so I was pleasantly surprised.

What a great shot, Linda! Somehow you caught them smiling in anticipation! Hope your Thanksgiving was relaxing. All our family hub-bub is over–I’m relaxing and catching up!

Thanks Terri – it was a lucky shot for me. I figured it would be a blur and was pleasantly surprised when I saw the image on the screen. The goose in the front had its bill open – giving directions perhaps? We had great weather for three days but we’re getting some snow tonight which is too bad, but I got the rest of the yard put to bed just in time. I know your hub-bub was happy – hope you saw and photographed some eagles.

I’m glad to hear that! Yes, we saw 4 eagles at this particular area of Coeur d’Alene, and I managed a few decent shots. It was cloudy so most images were blurry, etc. More about that soon!

Thanks Shelley! A lucky shot as I thought it would be a blur and instead the background was a little blurred/bokeh effect and the geese were not blurred. [P.S. – you got caught up and hopefully had a relaxing day for your birthday.]

Yes, it was a surprise when I saw it on the screen and the one goose had its mouth open like it was speaking! That’s great – now you will creep toward six decades – not a fun thought at all.

That’s a good way to look at it. The other day I heard a news tidbit that the average life expectancy for women now is 77 1/2 … I thought to myself “a mere 10 years to see and do everything!” It was a sobering thought.

Both of our moms died too young, they skewed the average. I’ve seen many women live to their late 90s so don’t give up hope that you’ll have a long time to get in all the retirement fun you have planned. 🤗
