About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Where do the birdies carry the little song book? Adorable pictures and interpretation.

Good question Zazzy – they tuck it under their wing. 🙂 I just realized that instead of “humming”, I could have put “winging it” … I hate when I think of a better word after the fact. Thank you – I am glad you like the pictures and interpretation. This Red-winged Blackbird was singing its heart out, then suddenly stopped like it forgot the “words” – that made me smile and I hoped the series of pics I took came out okay.

Bing Crosby would say, “Don’t know the words. Hum a little. Tap your feet. Do something.”

I didn’t know that line TD – now that would have been fun to use for a title! In fact, just a little bit ago it dawned on me I could have put “winging it” instead of “humming” – oh well.

  5. What great shots of the bird singing along, Linda! He can be the accompaniment either way 🙂 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I’ll “see” you in 2024!

Thanks Terri. This bird was singing so loud and suddenly stopped for no reason. It saw me the entire time and, I thought it had a rather sheepish look when it fell silent, but perhaps that is my overactive imagination! 🙂 Thank you – best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Laurie, yes – I get it! This bird fell silent so quickly and I was standing there the entire time. It was really like it thought “hey, am I making too much noise here – maybe I ought to take a break!” I was glad all the photos came out to make a fun post.

I am sure you’re correct Wayne – this bird was really singing loud and seeming to enjoy himself, when suddenly he stopped. I was standing there the entire time, so it’s not like I spooked it. I was glad all three pictures came out to make this fun post.

I love to hear the call of the red-winged blackbird and the way they spread their tail feathers and show off their red shoulder patches as they let out their trill. Maybe he stopped to listen to a nearby female friend. 🙂

Now there’s a thought Rebecca … he stopped so suddenly and he saw me there the entire time, so he wasn’t spooked. I really love seeing them singing too. They really get into their song and showing off.
