BADGES

Where do the birdies carry the little song book? Adorable pictures and interpretation.

Good question Zazzy – they tuck it under their wing. 🙂 I just realized that instead of “humming”, I could have put “winging it” … I hate when I think of a better word after the fact. Thank you – I am glad you like the pictures and interpretation. This Red-winged Blackbird was singing its heart out, then suddenly stopped like it forgot the “words” – that made me smile and I hoped the series of pics I took came out okay.

That bird knew the words!

Indeed – he was in fine form! He was really into his singing, then abruptly stopped. 🙂

Haha! Very funny. Maybe he is just humming along.

Janis, he was singing at the top of his lungs, then suddenly felt silent. What was up with that? I think he was humming along too to improvise. 🙂

That’s what I do when I don’t know the lyrics. Great birdbrains think alike! 🙂

It works for me too Janis!

Bing Crosby would say, “Don’t know the words. Hum a little. Tap your feet. Do something.”

I didn’t know that line TD – now that would have been fun to use for a title! In fact, just a little bit ago it dawned on me I could have put “winging it” instead of “humming” – oh well.

What great shots of the bird singing along, Linda! He can be the accompaniment either way 🙂 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I’ll “see” you in 2024!

Thanks Terri. This bird was singing so loud and suddenly stopped for no reason. It saw me the entire time and, I thought it had a rather sheepish look when it fell silent, but perhaps that is my overactive imagination! 🙂 Thank you – best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Ha! Looks like me in church when we sing a hymn I never heard before!!!

Laurie, yes – I get it! This bird fell silent so quickly and I was standing there the entire time. It was really like it thought “hey, am I making too much noise here – maybe I ought to take a break!” I was glad all the photos came out to make a fun post.

I’ll bet not a single bird has ever sang out of tune!

I am sure you’re correct Wayne – this bird was really singing loud and seeming to enjoy himself, when suddenly he stopped. I was standing there the entire time, so it’s not like I spooked it. I was glad all three pictures came out to make this fun post.

I love to hear the call of the red-winged blackbird and the way they spread their tail feathers and show off their red shoulder patches as they let out their trill. Maybe he stopped to listen to a nearby female friend. 🙂

Now there’s a thought Rebecca … he stopped so suddenly and he saw me there the entire time, so he wasn’t spooked. I really love seeing them singing too. They really get into their song and showing off.

I wonder what song you will hear if you put him on translate? “Rudolph the red winged black bird.” Lol

Ha ha – Diane, that is so funny. I try to be creative and after I posted this I thought I could have put “wingin’ it” instead of “humming” but yours is a great line!

I love red-winged blackbirds, but don’t often see them around here.

That’s a shame Linda as the males are very beautiful birds.

Now I am wondering if there is a black winged redbird?

Yes, perhaps if a Cardinal mistook a a pothole filled with cold patch for a pothole filled with water (previously used as a makeshift birdbath)!

Glad you liked it Esther – it was singing away, then shut down just like that. 🙂
