Thanks Laurie! I had some fun when I saw this chalk drawing someone made on the walking path. I was kind and put one peanut near the edge, but the look on that squirrel’s face as it tried to decide whether to go for it or not was priceless. I always liked that song, but not sure if my furry friend was a lover or a dreamer. 🙂

Thanks Barbara – I’m glad you enjoyed it and I’m glad I made my furry friend think about this treat. This chalk art was well done and vibrant. I thought I’d have some fun with my furry friend and when it stood up to ponder the pros and cons I had to laugh. I was kind and laid one peanut closer to the edge, so it was easier to “go for it” which you saw was in a crouched-down position. 🙂

Yes, but after a lot of apprehension first – poor squirrel wanted it so badly. I almost gave him some on the side since he was so conflicted!

Yes, although it pondered a lot on whether to venture over. I almost relented and gave it a peanut thrown away from the artwork. I always like that song and especially this video where Kermit is playing, not just the music.

Yes Wayne, I guess for them nuts equals the pot of gold. Did you think the squirrel would “go for it?” I gave my furry friend a break by putting one peanut closer to the edge, but there was a lot of pondering and hesitation on his part. I almost gave in and tossed him a peanut closer to me so he didn’t have to worry about retrieving a peanut.

Yes! A little hesitation initially Ruth, then I had to coax it a little along the way (and was tempted to throw one near me as it was debating so long about whether to “go for it”!

No, I am not that creative Zazzy. 🙂 I found the chalk rainbow on the perimeter path at Council Point Park and thought it would be fun to lure the squirrel into the middle of it with some peanuts as it was watching me, waiting for peanuts, so I put them there instead. It was interesting to watch how he considered the risk and at one point I decided that even though I put one peanut near the edge so he could grab it and go, he was so conflicted about what to do, that it wasn’t fair to him. But he rallied in the end!

I should have gone out and looked today – we had about four bouts of rain, some of it very heavy and a thunderstorm. Then I looked out the front door mid-morning and the sun was shining, sky was blue. I looked out again and it was raining and gray, not 20 minutes later. Did you and the kids get to see the Aurora Lights last night?

This is a very cute and delightful post, Linda! Mr squirrel was very brave!! I’m glad that you patiently waited to watch this unfold.
Have you seen Parker recently? This fellow is not Parker and I have been wondering about him.
Kermit and his song with the woods in the background is perfectly paired! It’s hard to believe that I have lived this long without ever seeing or hearing this song! I love it so I saved it to my cell phone for days I’m feeling in a low mood, or feeling scared, or just feeling lost. There’s a rainbow somewhere every day, and I will find my way.

I’m glad you liked it TD. This little squirrel was so hesitant, I almost gave in and tossed him a peanut or two away from the rainbow. I did put one peanut closer to the edge to make it easier for him. 🙂 As soon as I saw this artwork, I knew I could have some fun with it. I have always liked this cheery song and I thought I’d use it for this post in case no one had heard it and didn’t understand my reference “someday he’ll find it, the rainbow connection” (which is actually “we’ll”) and I was happy to find one with Kermit strumming his banjo and singing.
Thank you for asking about Parker … he is alive and well. I really haven’t been taking many photos as we had such a rainy April. If it wasn’t raining in the morning, it had rained at dawn and was humid or very gray. I really need to carry it every day in my fanny pack or pocket to catch any fun shots – since blogging, I have gone home probably five times to grab the camera as something is at the Park that I want to take a photo of and hope that it/they don’t move. They still have not started the Creek widening project and we now have three geese families there – I saw two yesterday and someone said there was a family of 12 goslings!

Glad to know that you are still seeing Parker. So much rain in your area. Although I would rather live in rain like what you have now, than the long months of winter that you endure. I will look forward to seeing what fun you have with writing your stories of what you see! I’m sure that you will find that family of a dozen and so much more!!! 😊

TD, I hope to find the family of a dozen – they should be easy to find! Parker is fine and I hope he is still fine and doesn’t go to live in the neighborhood after this Creek-widening project starts. It is pouring very hard and has been all afternoon. In fact today I had an A/C inspection. It was scheduled for mid-April and since severe weather, including a tornado, was expected, I cancelled it and we rescheduled it to today. No tornadic weather thankfully, but I felt sorry for my tech, a woman, who was in a rain suit and carrying a golf umbrella the entire time outside she worked (2:30 until around 4:00 p.m.) It’s cold in the house as the A/C was on the entire time … I’m trying to decide whether to crank up the heat now. 🙂

I’m surprised that the AC tech was able to work in pouring rain!?!? But I’m glad that you got that task over with! Your AC is apparently working. I think you use gas for heat. The systems in the far north are very different from what we use here this far south. I would turn off the AC and turn on the heat until you have the temperature to your liking! It is not uncommon in the spring here to switch from AC to heat and back to AC in one day.
Woke up to 80 degrees and very poor air quality with thick smoke because of the agricultural fire burns in Mexico this time of year. It’s thick and stifling. I have not been able to go outside today. I was outside yesterday for an hour on the porch for morning coffee and gave Yorkie to short walks to the end of the street and back, but regretted it because my eyes are itchy and burning (like allergies).
My neighbor on the north side of me has COVID. So I did a self home test and it was negative. The neighbor across the street left his job to begin a different job and while he was waiting to start the new job he had a heart attack. 2 weeks ago he went to the hospital for double bypass surgery. We just never know what will happen!

I just gave in and turned the heat on, but just to 71 … I don’t want to stress it out after the A/C was on continuously … I’ll nudge it up a little more in a bit. Once a tech told me that have to test the system and make it run continuously, but try not to do that. When I turn the A/C off if it is storming and it gets really warm, I only turn it up two degrees, then wait a while. They will work in the rain, but not if it lightning, but that is the only exception. It was pouring – I’m sure she was happy there was nothing wrong with it. I have had the heat on in the morning, then later in the day put the A/C on, but not back-to-back like this. I couldn’t type, my fingers were too cold. Yes, I do have gas heat.
That’s terrible about your neighbors on each side and I hope the one with the heart attack was still covered for health insurance. No, you never know what will happen in the course of a day. (Now, that two degrees … I am warm finally. I am glad I gave it about two and half-hours between systems though.

That should be fine with your AC. We are also advised to do only the 2 degree thing as to not over stress the unit.
I hadn’t thought about insurance. He is a single man with no children. He keeps to himself and I don’t really know him other than what I observed. His parents and sister were going to the house when he was very ill taking groceries to him. They have been coming to clean it for him for when he returns. I don’t even know if the new job would still hire him. He might be out of a job as he recovers.
The other neighbor next to me with Covid is self employed and I didn’t think about insurance for him either. He has a sister locally a little older than me that could help him. He is a nice person and has a two year very large dog.

Either way, hopefully they have insurance coverage, especially the heart attack victim. I have not raised it any more, but may go to 72. I generally don’t have the A/C tune-up until later in May/early June, so I don’t know why they wanted to start doing it in April. I had not turned it on yet, even on the hot days. The rain has finally stopped thank goodness. My A/C and furnace is now 12 years old and no longer under warranty, so I was happy it had nothing wrong with it.

The AC company may be anticipating a heavier customer base for their service with bringing everyone back in swing. I bought this house April 2020 during full pandemic, by August my unit completely died and I learned the entire HVAC SYSTEM had to be replaced which was only ten years old. Recently I learned that Mildred and Wayne who have lived across the street over sixty years also replaced their ten year old HVAC the same year in 2020. With the heat and salt humid air here units get heavy use and rust. That was a very high dollar item that I had not planned when I purchased this 84 year old house. I’m glad that I replaced it when I had the financial resources and credit. Some people don’t have AC here and even our county jail doesn’t have AC! Mine only had a three year warranty, so me too. Keep my fingers crossed that both of us will get more years out of our units. 🤞

I keep hearing about this horribly hot Summer, heat and humidity spikes and volatile weather and that latter bothers me more than anything TD. Climate change is leading us down a very scary road. Our original furnace was a Heil and lasted 25 years, but it, like everything else. was from another era.

Cute pics with that curious but hesitant squirrel, Linda! 😊 I’ve been putting sunflower seeds out in the yard for the birds and squirrels. I sure hope that they don’t attract many mice.

I was considering helping him with a peanut near me as it kept looking at me while considering what to do … I’m such a softie as you know with animals, especially squirrels. But just then he/she got braver. I was feeding the squirrels sunflower seeds at the side of my house a few Winters ago and returned from walking to find a mouse nibbling on them. It was very tiny and I thought “was that a mouse – can’t have that close to the door?!” The very next day, I returned home from walking, another mouse, bigger than the first one was nibbling sunflower seeds – that was the death knell for sunflower seeds at the house, but the squirrels and birds love them at the Park.

When we were kids, we chalked everywhere! Games, pictures you name it. I rarely see kids doing things outside anymore

Yet we never did chalk anything, even after I moved here to Michigan at age 10. I don’t see chalk art much anymore except after Easter, if it’s warm on Easter break, as kids get chalk in their Easter baskets. I will have some chalk art in tomorrow’s post, but it was from last year.
