Brilliant reflections of the Egret Linda

Thank you Brian – glad you liked that Egret. I am always happy to have smooth-as-glass water on a sunny day to photograph those reflections.

I know what you mean Dave. We will always remember what we were doing not only that morning, but throughout the day as we watched the TV coverage of the tragedy.

The first one should be framed. All beautiful and peaceful. Appropriate for the day.

Thank you Kate. It was such a peaceful morning at the marsh and I knew it would be perfect for this September 11th post.

So peaceful. I wish I could sit on that bench and quietly absorb some of that serene energy.

I know what you mean Barbara. That morning at the marsh the water was still and the morning sun caused some gorgeous reflections. A perfect place to sit and ponder life.

Miss Linda…………………………..it’s hard to believe that the 911 tragedy is already 23 years ago……………………………did you take those Egret pics……………………..so cool you’re a great photographer!…………..thanks

I know – it seems incredible to me too Ann Marie. Sometimes it seems like just yesterday. I did take those Egret pics. The bench and hill overlook the Delta at the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge (at Humbug Marsh) and the Egret was in the Delta. Interestingly, the Egret got spooked by something (not me as I wasn’t close to it) and flew off and crashed into a Great Blue Heron – neither was hurt but each bird went and perched in different trees and glared at one another.

Great Egret study Linda.
Is there any large body of water where you can shoot for the eastern shore? You could get some great sunset silhouettes If the conditions are right?

Thank you Wayne – the Egrets are especially beautiful when they pause and don’t move while they study the water for fish, so I was lucky to get those beautiful reflections that morning. To get the sunset on a eastern shore, the closest for me would be Dingell Park or Elizabeth Park which are both along the Detroit River. I really would like to do that one day.

Thank you Debbie – I love reflections and the water was so still, a perfect day to capture reflections to instill a little peace into this always sad anniversary date.

Thank you Diane! It was a perfectly still morning so a great day to get reflections. It was very peaceful – it was just me alone with the Egret, then suddenly he got spooked and it wasn’t me as I was not near him on the Delta walkway. He flew off in such a hurry he collided with a Great Blue Heron. They were shook up and went to separate trees. I don’t think either was hurt. I have a photo of each of them in their “own tree” to use in a post.

I always wondered if birds flew into each other, especially the huge flocks migrating.

I wonder about that too Diane, especially when they all decide to take off with a jack rabbit start then appear to go every which way until they get into the V-formation. These two birds I think were startled more than anything else and the Heron headed through the trees afterward, until he perched. The Egret flew way up high to the top of a tree, distancing himself from the Heron. It’s a narrow passageway, but still ….
There was a video awhile ago and then I think they made a Disney movie about this, but a guy used some type of flying machine – not motor powered, not a glider, but it was small and he was able to fly along with a flock of geese and observe them. They were not fazed by him being near them.

I watched all those shows on TV where they made a fake goose with a camera and a lot of other animals. They even went under the water with them. They all had cameras and got up close to all the different animals. The shows were so interesting!

I really enjoyed them too Diane. When I was a kid the whole family watched all the nature shows together like “National Geographic” and “The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau”.

Yes, we used to have a kind of “family hour” for watching TV, especially Sunday nights.

I do like seeing benches near a body of water so that you can sit down and ponder. This bench is exceptionally pretty.

Same here Ally. That bench did look nice tucked in between the wildflowers. It was a peaceful morning as I was the only one at the marsh and just the Egret fishing, otherwise no sign of life. Five minutes after I took these pictures, the Egret flew off, spooked by something and collided with a Heron in mid-air. The Heron led out a loud squawk – neither was hurt, but maybe bruised egos. I’ll be writing about that the end of the month.
P.S. – I thought it was funny we both used snippets of quotes from Shakespeare in our recent posts. I remembered those three words were used in a 9/11 tribute once – the quote is much longer..

Esther – I thought the same thing when I saw that bench amidst the wildflowers in such a serene setting. Well you definitely deserve to park yourself here and just do nothing – you have certainly earned that R&R!

I wonder why I’m so tired, and then I remember the endless month of caretaking. I need to give myself grace and take time to rest.
A bench is always lovely take a seat and enjoy the scenery, only if no birds have used it as their potty spots.

You need a little break Esther … I hope you all can get out in October for some harvest time fun. Is harvest time a big deal in a warm-weather state like California? Here it is all about going to the cider mill for cider and donuts, picking apples and then pumpkins,. The birds sometimes … sigh. When the geese fly overhead, I worry about my head, especially when I don’t have a hat on. Small bird messes are bad enough.

Oh yikes, big bird messes must be messy!! lol
Even though it’s still warm in California in October, we still get into the autumn activities., like harvest festivals, apples picking, and pumpkin patches. We may do some of those activities!

Yes, overhead means you duck or move out of the way pronto! I often move over from where they are flying if I can because ya never know! I wondered if you would still celebrate the typical autumn activities, so now I have my answer. Right now, we may be as warm as California – today was 84 again. Labor Day weekend was cool and a lot of people decorate outside their home for harvest time at/around Labor Day. With this heat, the pumpkins will likely puree. 🙂

Squirrels will have pumpkin puree soon if this heat continues! We had cooler weather and now it’s warm again. It’s so much better than the blazing heat we had this summer. At least it’s possible to take a walk and not feel like a roasted potato at the end of it.

The Summer that goes on forever and it doesn’t matter that Fall arrives on Sunday. We had another 80+ degree day today and 100% humidity. I don’t know how you do it where you live Esther.

Thank you TD, I’m glad you liked it. That bench parked in the wildflowers is inviting and very peaceful. I was lucky there was an Egret at the Delta and it stayed put a while. I figured these peaceful photos would be perfect for Wordless Wednesday for the September 11th anniversary. Yes, ol’ Friday the 13th – hope you had a un-scary day!

I had someone wish me a “Happy 9/11”. I replied that I wasn’t sure such a thing was possible. Perhaps she was just flustered and at a loss for something to say.
The photos are so peaceful!

Hmm – that is cringeworthy, isn’t it? I’m wondering if she was young enough to not remember the significance of the day, but still. I’m glad you liked the photos JP. I had intended to use them in a post about a walk, but the reflections and bench looked so peaceful and 9/11 was a Wednesday so I used them here instead.
