Thank you Dawn! I did get a walk in today, but I waited until later to leave to ensure there were no slippery spots from that freezing rain we had on Monday night. It was very slippery yesterday around my house.

It appears that NuttyClaus took the magical sled to the Park despite the snaining! Love that photo opportunity of possibly Parker with a Santa hat. Did you decorate the Charlie Brown tree for the sweet sugar plum critters?

TD, no snaining last night thankfully, but after Monday’s freezing rain and as slippery as it was here Tuesday morning, I waited ’til almost mid-day to go to the Park. That late in the day, typically my furry friends are done foraging for the day, but not today – they were hungry and almost ran me over to get peanuts! That is Parker posing at the top of the tree.
As to the Charlie Brown tree, I was sure that people would think I decorated it, but I did not. About 10 days ago, one morning I noticed the red bulb on the tree. I didn’t have the camera with me that day as I stopped at the Park to walk and feed my little buddies after I ran several errands. I figured by the next day someone would have taken the bulb (or broken it). But it was there, so I got this photo of it. Coincidentally, today while at the Park, there was a guy, a walker that I only see sporadically. He pointed out that he had not only put the bulb on the tree, but he had planted the tree there two years ago, having brought it from his home where he had kept it in a pot for a long time! I was surprised to hear that as I mistakenly thought the City planted it because at the time I noticed this evergreen, the City had planted lots of deciduous trees around the Park. At least it is on the inside part of the path, so it survived the destruction earlier this year. Merry Christmas back at you!

Parker is certainly cute in a Santa Hat! Fun to learn the story of the Charlie Brown Tree!!
Santa was good to Yorkie and me. Somehow Santa’s magic stuffed a new washing machine down my fake fire place and filled Yorkie’s stocking with a bag of Sweet Potato and Duckie with probiotics kibbles, heart worm & flea preventative, and a new chewable medicine for anti-diarrhea issues. Oh and Joy, our hummingbird, did receive a small bag of imperial sugar for her stocking!
We just finished watching Sound of Music. I have seen this movie a million times and I still got the goosebumps and good tears.

You and Yorkie (and the hummingbird) were obviously on Santa’s good girl list (assuming the hummingbird is a girl too). I have not seen that movie in years. I was happy to find out the history of the Charlie Brown tree and will be sharing it next Sunday. Yes, I did enjoy it … now winding down.

Hi Ann Marie – ‘Twas me who made Parker wear that red Santa cap, in exchange for walnuts. 🙂 I also liked the red bulb on the tree. Thank you Wayne! No, they did not sing to me like Alvin and his buddies … I should have said “no treats ’til you sing to me.” I learned something today about the little tree in this picture. I went later to the Park because Tuesday morning it was really slippery from Monday’s freezing rain, so I waited until mid-day and it was above freezing to go to the Park. I was sure that people would think I placed that red bulb on the tree, but I did not. About 10 days ago suddenly there was one red bulb on the tree and I got this photo of it. Today while at the Park, there was a guy, a walker that I only see sporadically – today I was later, he was there. So, he pointed out that he had not only put the bulb on the tree, but he had planted the tree there two years ago, having brought it from his home where he had kept it in a pot for a long time! I was surprised to hear that as I mistakenly thought the City planted it because at the time I noticed this evergreen, the City had planted lots of deciduous trees around the Park. Because it is on the inside part of the path, it survived the destruction earlier this year. They finally replaced the park bench they ran over and mangled with the earth-moving machines and had it cordoned off while the cement dried … I didn’t see any squirrels stuck in the cement because they didn’t block access from them!

Merci Zazzy! J’aime bien francais. Mes leçons de français prennent beaucoup de temps chaque jour – 90 minutes! C’est jour numero 62 et j’etudie beaucoup vocabulaire – 508 mots.
(I had to cheat and look up “vocabulary” and “words” and some words need accent marks which I can’t do here in WP … I remember very few words despite taking French in college, the last two years speaking only French in the classroom – zero English. The verb conjugations are more difficult for me than memorizing words and their gender and accent marks. Good for my brain though. 🙂

I had to cheat and use google translate. My French is very minimal. I admire your efforts. Estudié español en la escuela hace cuarenta años y no recuerdo mucho. I always have to look up “40.” Perhaps I’m in denial. 🙂

Thank you. That’s okay – I had to cheat for those two words. We are learning fast and furiously and about every three days we have a new section which launches about 25-30 new words and phrases. Forty years ago for your Spanish and it is 46 years for me since I last studied French. That makes me feel old! I am using Duolingo. I researched into Duolingo versus Babbel (the latter advertises all the time with deals), but Duolingo looked like learning could be fun, yet productive. They have a cast of characters with different voices and we have learned enough words that we get little stories with dialogue between the different characters, which are always pretty funny, especially Junior, the young boy interacting with his parents. I started on the free version, but had to upgrade to the paid version because I have an adblocker on my laptop, but the paid version gives you personalized lessons for your weak points and other personalized lists. I will never sound authentic as I cannot trill my Rs and I couldn’t back in the 70s either. C’est la vie!

That was a good trip to the Park Susan. Nice poses in exchange for walnuts and yesterday I learned the origin of the tree which I thought was planted by the City. It turned out a fellow walker planted it two years ago, then hung that single bulb on it a few weeks ago. I was wondering who put that ornament there! A nice touch for Christmas!

Hi Laurie – That sounds nice, some snow and more Christmassy-looking than here. We are having temps in the 50s on Saturday – maybe PA is the same. I’m sure Atti loves seeing his grandparents again.
That is Parker in the festive hat looking very dapper. 🙂 I did not decorate that little tree and just yesterday I learned who put that lone Charlie Brown-type decoration on the little fir tree. A walker that I hardly ever see told me that he had the small fir tree at home in a pot and it was getting bigger, so he and a buddy planted it one day about two years ago at the Park. I assumed the City planted it as they planted many saplings around that time. Then he told me he put the bulb on a few weeks ago. It did lend some Christmas spirit to this Park (which needs it). I took some more pictures for next Sunday’s post of the next step of “improvement” although I beg to differ with them.

Thanks Laurie! I don’t know how I forgot to mention it the first time I replied. I was down to five miles and the weather folks predicted a lot of rain for the end of the year and after that last bout of freezing rain on December 23rd which slickened up everything, I headed out the next good walking day – Christmas. Like you, I’ve been there getting in the last miles. 🙂

Happy Holidays to you as well Tom. So far my squirrel friends have lucked out as to snow, though we have had two bouts of very cold weather. I have seen them in the middle of Winter, hunched over, their long furry tail positioned like an umbrella for their back, neck and head when it is snowing … I feel for them, even though I know Mother Nature fattens them up and gives them thicker fur for Winter.

I thought that was a nice touch for this Park too Linda. I’ll have more in my next post about that tree as I just learned on my Christmas Day walk that it was planted by a walker several years ago and he put the bulb on it.

Yes, I thought they had a tough year Barbara. I also took them a bag of mixed nuts for Christmas Day. I’ll save the last bag of walnuts for coldest part of Winter … I am sure it will be here sooner or later. We had 58 degrees for a high temp today! I learned some info about that tree on my Christmas Day walk – it turns out a walker planted it two years ago and he brought the red bulb to decorate it this year. I thought it was a City tree – a little Christmas magic at the Park.
