BADGES

There is a little chute of a plant that makes it look like the duck on the left is spitting on his friend.

I went back and looked at the photo and I missed that JP! You have an eagle eye! It does look like it is spitting on his friend – they must have had words, so no wonder they weren’t looking at one another.

I am certainly looking for spring, even if these ducks aren’t. One of the harbingers of spring (for me) is the trip I make to a nearby wildlife refuge in Feb. or March to see the migrating snow geese. This year, the refuge is closed due to bird flu concerns. It’s understandable, but disappointing.

That would be a disappointment Laurie. I follow a blogger named Rebecca who just posted about snow geese – in fact she sees them every year. She lives in Tennessee. I’ll send the link in another comment as soon as I find it. Perhaps you could go there? I’d be happy to ask her where this is. Her video was just incredible.

I would love to travel to TN to see the snow geese, Linda, but I can’t. Bill and I are going to OR next week to help our son and DIL. They just had twin girls! They have asked us to stay for 6 weeks, and we are happy to do so. These girls are their first (and second) children, and they are both in their 40s. We are so happy for them.

How exciting Laurie – congratulations to you and Bill and your son and DIL. Twins! How nice! Maybe your venue will be over the bird flu precautions by next year or keep this place in mind – you/I could ask Rebecca where it is. Safe travels and enjoy spoiling those babies!

Laurie – here is the link to Rebecca’s recent post. Maybe the snow geese are still here?

OMG Linda! We drove past a farm field today by our house and there was a field full of all white geese. We had no idea they were called snow geese!

They must have been migrating through – weren’t they beautiful Diane? I have never seen them – they don’t migrate through here or I’d make an effort to see them, but Rebecca, posts about them every year – I would love to see all those beautiful white geese.

That’s for sure Barbara! The intensity of their gaze had me swiveling my head, but I don’t know what was so fascinating. 🙂

For sure! All our southern blogging friends are being treated to temps in the 70s this week – we get two bouts of freezing rain – hmm.

Miss Linda……………………………Well…………………..the sun is out………………..They’re probably looking for someone like you who will………………………maybe leave them a treat!

Yes, I’d toss them some corn here and there if the Metroparks would allow it. The sun makes all the difference in Wintertime doesn’t it Ann Marie?

Isn’t every creature in our region looking for spring? Soon, I hope.

I agree with you Ally – I think our heads are all pointed in that direction. Perhaps a little sun would ward off the freezing rain predictions for twice this week – ugh.

Rubbernecks…

Funny you write that TD, because I originally had “Rubberneckin’ at the Marsh” as my third title and decided to leave it out and mention Spring instead. You know, great minds think alike. 🙂

I think most of us are looking for spring. Something interesting must have caught their attention. Nice capture!

Thanks Debbie – I swiveled my head around to figure out what they were looking at but saw nothing. Yes, Spring … where art thou? Woody the Woodchuck may have been a bit off on her prediction this year.

Yes, that makes sense Tom. Very intense looks. 🙂

The females aren’t as flamboyant (in terms of color) as the males, but they are very beautiful nonetheless.

Yes, I agree Tom. And the female Mallards, just like the males, have that bright blue speculum feather, adding a touch of color to their brown plumage.

They look healthy and curious! Spring is on the way, fellas, hang in there. Can’t wait to see the little duckies that will follow.

Yes, they do Esther. I looked around to see what grabbed their interest, but I couldn’t tell! Their gaze told me nothing. I am looking forward to Spring (not only for a break from the weather), but it is baby season, those sweet goslings and ducklings especially!

It will be cute when the little ducklings and goslings appear behind their mamas…those little puffy babies.

I am looking forward to seeing them Esther – Fall is my favorite season, but Spring is when all the babies magically appear!
