About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Yes, but this time the girl was not impressed in the least!
P.S. – Laurie, I had a dentist appointment last week. Dr. Kelly is now going to Sydney for a marathon. I know he did all of the big ones as I sent you the link with his FB pic showing off the medals when he got the last one, but the hygienist said they opened a new category.

Yes. I have a friend who is doing the marathon in Australia too. she had done all the major marathons, but now the Sydney marathon has been added to the list of majors.

I am not running right now due to my health issues. I hope to be able to run again very soon. Not sure if another marathon is in my future, though.

He is excited about it and training hard already. The hygienist mentioned it to me first to ask him when he came in to do the checkup. See, I thought I was telling you something new!!

I know, I remember you told me, you have to start walking, then build up to running, but you said a few years ago after the Marine Marathon (maybe?) you didn’t think you’d do a full marathon like that again.

They are a tough crowd today aren’t they? I do like your theory JP; hmm, perhaps I should have waited and used this photo around Valentine’s Day. Instead I disparaged him for acting like the cool lifeguard trying to impress the bikini-clad beach goer! 🙂

Yes, those wing flaps can be scary – after all, you endured Mr. Meany’s wing-flapping every time you walked by for how many years? I was confronted by a gander today who was guarding his Missus who was sitting on a nest. I didn’t see her as she was hidden pretty well. He was “patrolling” the pond where she was. One hiss, from far away yet told me to stop and look around and I knew why.

I can’t believe how many Canada geese we have seen in London on the rivers. They are everywhere!

Yes and it is nice to see them. I saw a goose on a nest today and her mate was guarding her … we were the only ones around, him/her and me but he was hissing at me and I was nowhere near her – in fact I looked to find her as he was agitated and she was kind of hidden. I never take chances with the geese, especially when the mate is on a nest or they are with goslings. I hate the fact that they want to gas the excess geese to mass kill them because people are angry with the mess they make.

Yes people are like that where I live too. Most people don’t mind but a few want any and all wildlife transported right out of their sight. It makes me sad

That’s terrible. People want deer herds culled and they do that in certain rural subdivisions where there are lots of deer/vehicle crashes, but gassing geese en masse is just cruel and makes me sad as well.

Thank you Terri – that made my day! I thought this would be fun as he was in mid-flap and she looked underwhelmed. 🙂 Still no internet! Well, thank goodness for the library to catch up and get your SS post done.

  14. Beautiful and so glad that they are not in a gas chamber! These geese never are something terrible to get rid of. Mosquitoes and ticks maybe… but not intelligent, socially loyal geese.

My upcoming post is going to mention my unhappiness with the geese gassing and as of today, it will still happen. June/July will be the chosen time because the geese are molting and lose their flight feathers, so are unable to fly, thus making them helpless to escape from their captors. How sad! Yes, find a way to eradicate mosquitoes and ticks. The mosquitoes will be bad this Summer since a rainy and hot Spring is on tap.
