About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Ewwwww…I am NOT a fan of wasps of any sort, but the juxtaposition of ugly wasp and beautiful flower works well for photo composition!

Thank you Laurie! I’m no fan of wasps either and this one was huge and it seemed like its big body took up all the landscape of that Allium, which did offset that big wasp!

  2. I kind of like the blue tint to its wings. Thank goodness it’s not aggressive to humans and helps to pollinate the flowers.

That blue tint was unique Barbara and to tell you the truth I didn’t notice it until the images were up on the screen. I took my photos and got away before something agitated it and it came after me! Good thing they are useful as pollinators.

Yes, a big ugly wasp Dave, but I understand they are harmless. I had my digital compact camera and it zooms to 12X. It is ten years old this year and I come home with very few boo-boo shots when I use it, whereas the DSLR, I often can’t get close to something, like a butterfly or bug or birds if they are too close up, so often the photo is blurry.

  7. Great shots, Linda! Well, I’m not the only one to take wonderful photos of Digger Wasps! Teehee! 😊
You should do more close-up shots!

Thank you Tom! I knew you’d get a kick out of our identical Digger Wasps on Allium! They were so large and those incredible blue wings. I have a digital compact camera with 12X zoom and it is 10 years old. That camera is such a workhorse and, at least when I come home, after bending down close to take shots of the flowers and/or taking photos of bees or being able to take a panoramic shot, it seems this camera always gets it right!

  8. Having been stung between the eyes by a wasp… I’m not a fan… but we need all the insects we can get… the flower wouldn’t be as lovely without it… so I’m conflicted! Well captured regardless, Linda !!

Several years ago, there was small hole above the screen door and I saw some wasps going in and out and we sealed it up. I had one in the house last year. It must have come in on my hair or clothes and I was sitting at the table and saw it buzzing around the light. Thankfully I got it before it was “at large” in the house.
