BADGES

Definitely gone here. We are having lovely fall weather. I hope it lasts long.

We had lovely Fall weather most of October, but beginning last Sunday it has gone downhill. Yesterday was stormy multiple times and today we had lots of rain – same for tomorrow. But … we have not had a frost yet, so hopefully we’ll get an Indian Summer (not to be greedy in hoping for that). 🙂

We had our first frost about 2 weeks back but we haven’t had another one. Sadly it did the annuals in.

That’s all it takes and the annuals are out cold. We were enjoying overnight temps of 65 just a week ago!

I always love to come across sidewalk chalk art. You see a lot of it in some of the campgrounds I go to. Kids love to do it.

I do too Dawn. There was a teen girl on the next block over that did some fun chalk art sometimes and she used that chalk that lasts through rain or sprinklers, but she is grown up now. Once at Council Point Park, I arrived at the pavilion area the day after an end-of-school party for elementary school students. I could tell it was a party as there were pizza boxes, a sheet cake box, juice boxes and lots of chalk art drawings. I did a Wordless Wednesday post about how the students viewed their teacher, Mrs. Ratliff, as it sure was interesting. 🙂

It is too cold for chalking sidewalks in my area today. Although if it were March, I would probably be going without a coat.
That cat in the last one looks evil!

It was cold and ugly here too JP, the second day in a row for rainy, blustery weather. In March, we’re all excited for the first day to go outside without the Winter coat, hat, etc. I thought the cat looked evil too and I almost left it out, but chalk art has been scarce, so I left its ornery self in.

Fun sidewalk art! Those kids have talent. 😀Our temps have turned, and I think those “dog days” are definitely over for this year.

I thought it was fun too Debbie! The day I was on Grosse Ile, while walking along the main street, these chalk artists had hit every business over two blocks. This chalk art about the “dog days” was in front of an ice cream shoppe. I almost tacked it onto my post about the paintings and bikes in the windows on the Island, but that post was already groaning with photos at that point.

As you probably know by now, I am a fan of the dog days of summer AND chalk drawings on the sidewalk. They have made me smile many times while running.

I do remember both things about you Laurie. I did not see as much chalk art in the neighborhood this year as I didn’t walk as much to the Park and I also think that kids were not playing outside due to the heat. These chalk artists did some of their handiwork in front of every business for two blocks along a street I was walking along in Grosse Ile. This post’s chalk art was in front of an ice cream parlor.

Oooohhh…I hope you stopped in for a dip!

I would have but it was not open for business yet. They had a big ice-cream truck (like you see driving around the neighborhood), so I guess they expanded to a store.

Ann Marie … and you an older person who likes dogs, hot weather and chalk art. I remember you always kept a piece of chalk in your pocket and would write messages when you encountered chalk art on your walks. This was in Grosse Ile, the day I was walking and taking photos of the Detroit Institute of Arts paintings.

I remember you were always fond of chalk art Anne. It’s been a while since I had enough to fill a whole post. These chalk artists left their handiwork on every business over two blocks on Grosse Ile. This was my favorite of the bunch, in front of an ice cream parlor.

Getting a bit chilly here too! Fall/Wintery weather has finally caught up lol. I used to use chalk on the sidewalks/driveways when I was a kid ALL the time, I loved drawing things and playing Hop Scotch and other games.

We’ve had two ugly days here Susan, rainy, blustery – ugh. At this point we can only hope for an Indian Summer after the first frost – it’s greedy to say that, I know, after the beautiful October we were having up until now. Where I lived in Oakville, it was a new sub, but we had gravel driveways and gravel streets up until the time we moved in 1966. But, we did do chalk squares for Hop Scotch at the school playground, so I guess I was cheated out of fun chalk activities you played! 🙂

We had a relatively mild summer and now it seems that our fall will be mild also. I do hope Mother Nature will bring us a good dose of rain. I love the chalk art, although at first I thought the dog was a ground hog. 🙃

Our Autumn has been wonderful up until this past Sunday and we’ve had a lot of rain and blustery weather ever since. I think we were spoiled Janis, but truly we needed the rain as Southeast Michigan is in moderate drought (or was until now). I like chalk art too, but I’ve not seen much of it this year, likely as it’s been too hot for kids to play outside. I didn’t realize that second dog was a dog when I saw the chalk art ‘in person” and not until I saw it on the screen. The chalk art artists went along a main street and did chalk art in front of every business over two blocks. I saw it the day I was on taking photos of the art museum outside paintings.

Very very very cute post Linda! I love those doggos. Now the cat looks looks freaky; a bit Halloweenie!!! 🎃
I saw the cutist Halloween yard display on my errands this morning. Three life size skeletons in a row hanging on to a misquote tree upside down by their knees and the other limb their were two in a row hanging the same way facing each other. It reminded me of monkeys playing in a tree… but these were human skeletons. So cute and clever to whoever thought of it. It made me giggle. I went by it a second time and decided to stop to take a photo of it.
Weather person said today that we have had 17 days out of 22 days in October that reached well into the 90s. Today’s high was 89. Ha, ha, ha. We are still waiting for fall temperatures! 🍂

I’m glad you like the post TD. It was fun to see all this chalk art and the chalk artists had done chalk art along the main street, in front of each business over two blocks. This art was in front of an ice cream parlor. I saw it the day I did my walk to photograph all the outdoor paintings.
We had a good run with the gorgeous weather and I was sorry to see it go. We’ve had rain and blustery weather since Sunday and will be like that tomorrow as well. I guess Fall is here to stay.
That is clever and we have a town called Romeo, Michigan and one street has skeleton displays in front of every home. Skeletons doing different things, like a family sitting around watching TV – it is called Tillson Street. I guess they have other displays too, but mostly skeletons. They have been doing this for 25+ years.
There is a guy in Kentucky who decorates a lot for Halloween and he is trying to get into the Guiness Book of World Records for most Halloween decor. I will put a story about him in a separate comment for you.

Someone had fun drawing! Nice captures, Linda. We have one more nice day then rain and snow coming this weekend. 5 years ago this week, we drove a 20-foot U-Haul from Sacramento to here to move 80% of our house. We had to drive it back empty (long story) and head home a day early to avoid snow! I believe were in for several feet of snow this winter. ❄️

Thanks Terri – these chalk artists decorated the parking lots of every business within a two-block area. These drawings were my favorite, in front of an ice cream parlor. I know you are glad it is not five years ago this week. That’s a big trailer and I don’t blame you for returning it before the snow started to fly. I hope you were able to find people to help you unload it and you two didn’t do it all yourselves.

Fun artwork, Linda. I’m certainly not missing those hot and humid days at all. 🙂

Yes, it was fun to see this chalk art Rebecca. The chalk artists had decorated the parking lots of every business in a two-block area, but this was my favorite, in front of an ice cream parlor. I’m not missing that heat and humidity either – in fact we are almost in freezing territory all of a sudden. It’s quite a radical change.

I love all the chalk designs on the pavement. My granddaughter wrote a huge Happy Halloween in her driveway. She sat right in back of it so everyone could see it as she passed out candy. Terry took my grandson trick or treating and my daughter and I sat on the porch enjoying all the costumes.

That sounds like a fun idea Diane – I’ll bet the kids liked the chalk art. Someone down the street from me has a lot of skeletons out, every kind you can imagine and two skeletons are the 12-foot tall variety. I’ve never looked to see if they light it up at night, but one morning I walked that way and there was a monster with glowing eyes still blinking off and on. We had a neighbor many years ago that used dry ice with purple in it so as kids walked to the door, the purple haze kind of enveloped you … luckily no one fell off the porch! 🙂

Our neighbor has that tall blinking eye one too. It’s crazy how much money people spend on Halloween.

It is crazy considering it is one day/night. They have a big house, but the property is not that big and it’s spread out over the front lawn. I’m surprised no one has stolen any of it yet because every time someone has their inflatables stolen, they post about it in our city’s Facebook forum. And she has not mentioned it … yet anyway.
