About Linda Schaub
This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Yes, I should have been after all those puzzles. I bought one for next year – perhaps I should start that. It’s only 12 puzzles – whew!

Yes, aren’t they sweet? They were a perfect size for me, five inches square, 50 pieces, so very manageable. Next year’s Advent puzzle is eleven 100-piece puzzles and one 300-piece puzzle. Maybe I’ll start on December 1st! Merry Christmas Joni!

Yes, it was a lot of fun and today I came home from walking and said “what, no puzzle for me to do today?” I did not see Brody’s breed in here – shame on them! Merry Christmas and a Woofy New Year back at you Terri!

It was fun Diane. I wish I had taken better photos of them though. The light in my kitchen is not good and I used a second light, but I also had issues with the glare from the puzzle. Each of these pups was very cute in their Christmas duds. 🙂

I thought they were cute puzzles too Ann Marie. And, at only five inches square, they took up very little space to do them. Sometime I will drop it off so you have it for next Christmas Advent season.

They are so cute! My husband asked me the other day if I wanted to do puzzles. We used to years and years ago, maybe we should give it a go !

I thought they were cute too Susan. I did not intend to buy puzzles, but was at the grocery store in October and they were just loading a whole display of Advent jigsaw puzzles (something I had never seen before) and I saw these. They also had 24 cats. I got another Advent jigsaw puzzle for next year – it is for 12 days: 11 days of 100-piece puzzles and the big puzzle is 300 pieces. My mom did puzzles all the time and loved doing them. I thought if I started out slowly, I might be able to get into it, if I have a dedicated area to keep it in progress. You should go for it – Winter is not going away anytime soon!!

Ugh! Winter lol. We have been having another big storm. Probably you are too. I’m glad we don’t have to go out anywhere this weekend!

Yes, Winter has definitely worn out its welcome already, actually a month ago! We have some horrible storm coming Monday, with 45-50 mph (72 – 80 kph) winds and freezing rain and snow. Ugh. Every time I hear the news or weather report it sounds worse. This will likely trash my walking regimen for another four days considering we have heavy rain most of Sunday. I’m glad I don’t have anywhere I need to go either.

Oh we are getting the same weather as you ! It’s supposed to start today sometime and continue overnight. We are getting our generator ready just in case. I have a dental appointment late tomorrow and hope I can get to it. I won’t walk outside when it’s icy at all or very cold. So I have been using my exercise bike inside instead.

I am a weather worrier and the thought of these very high wind gusts worries me. We have the high winds beginning at midnight and my weather alarm already went off red for warning. On two occasions, both when winds were clocked at around 39 mph (62 kmh), I have had problems. First time my shed blew over and rolled across the yard and fell apart. I didn’t use it as I’m scared of spiders, but it matched the house and was at the back fence, leaving me an empty space. The gust caused my neighbor’s pear tree to split in half and when the tree cutters came to take it and the one next to it as it had a split, but did not split down the middle, he let the tree fall on my pole light and it took out the address sign and bar it was one.
The second time, the neighbor’s dead tree lost a branch that fell onto an electrical wire, the wire fell down and caused a fire. Burned the neighbor behind mine’s garage and stockade fence to the ground and burned my back garden and part of my side garden. The downed wire fire was at 11:30 p.m. and I was sound asleep. It was December 2nd, cold, but not cold like we’ve been having. Good thing as I could not get back into the house until after 2:00 a.m. So, now anything over 39 mph worries me. Good luck and I will be glad when it’s over as it is going ’til 9:00 p.m. Monday.
I have been using my exercise bike, plus I have a peddler, which I use when it’s cold so I don’t have to go downstairs where the big bike is. I hope you’re okay to get to the dentist. I’m glad I don’t have to go anywhere for awhile.

I looked at your puzzles and realized they were relatively simple ones and wondered……do they make braille puzzles for blind people? I looked it up and apparently so!
I have heard of tough puzzles being 100,000 pieces! I think I’ve done a handful and that’s it but one of them is hanging in my bathroom! Skydivers!

I never thought of there being Braille puzzles – I just took a look as well. That would be very difficult without seeing the picture. These were only 50 pieces, a five-inch puzzle and some of them were a bit difficult. It’s been years since I did a puzzle. A puzzle that is 100,000 puzzles would be extremely difficult – you would need a huge area to put it together, like a big dining room table, so you could leave it and do a few pieces a day. I have another one for next year which is a 12-day Advent jigsaw puzzle, but with 11 days of 100-piece puzzles and one large 300-piece puzzle. My mom did puzzles for years and loved it and I have puzzles here she did and others she didn’t get to.. It is good brain training as you must be analytical in trying to figure out what goes where. That’s great you have done some … Skydivers would be difficult, a lot of sky!

Yes, my mom had some real tough ones. There’s a puzzle here that she didn’t get to and it is a lobster – I can’t remember if it the whole lobster and only one, but I believe it is one lobster, that takes up the entire 1,000-piece puzzle. Imagine how difficult that will be to do. Some parts are bright red, some are shiny! I will do it one day … there are puzzles in the basement she finished already that I saved as I liked them and more new puzzles under the bed she never got to do unfortunately.

My brain needs help too – I guess we could blame brain freeze on our not-so-great Michigan weather!

Love all the Christmas pups! My husband picked out our calendar for this year. It is cats and dogs. 🙂

Aren’t they cute? I did not go looking for a puzzle, I just saw it on the endcap at Meijer and decided it would be fun to do during the Christmas season and would make a fun post as well. I got another Advent puzzle for next year too. That’s sounds like a fun calendar – I hope you share pictures from it with quotes as you have in the past.

That’s a tongue twister for sure JP. I know all those cute puppies in their festive outfits might have spurred people to get a new puppy of their own. 🙂
