Yes, he is isn’t he Brian? It’s a big duck. There are lots of Pekin ducks and Mallards there.

Whoa!! Pretty cool. How do you spot these cool animals?!

Yes, they are very cool to see Esther. They are big ducks too, although you can’t really tell that from the picture. They are lots of Pekins and Mallards at Elizabeth Park.

I haven’t seen ducks in a long time! We haven’t had taken many walks lately to the parks. We’ve been so busy with school and just living life that going out for nature walks have fallen by the wayside. But I thought of you and your squirrel feeding last Saturday when Ellis and I took a small bag of walnuts to feed local squirrels. I threw one at a squirrel and it hit him…he went right for it and looked for more. It was such a cute sight!

Well I envy you seeing the squirrels because it is so icy and bitter cold that I won’t get down there this week either. We have had a bitter cold weekend and the next two days will be 40 mph winds, snow and -15 or lower windchills. This is not a great Winter. I was working on next Sunday’s post about a trip to Fair Lane, then I’ll have two more posts about that same day coming up. It was a very long walk and the last part was taken at a duck pond and there were lots of Mallards, all brown, in eclipse phase, plus Wood Ducks, similarly in eclipse phase. I only knew they were Wood Ducks as they had white rings around their eyes. I hope you can keep feeding your local squirrels – I remember you said the duck pond had dried up if I remember correctly.

You don’t see many camo ducks!

No, you don’t … it blends in nicely, except for that bright yellow bill and orange feet! 🙂

I can see the mallard shape, but the coloring makes wonder what kind of duck the other parents was. Nice shot!

Thank you Barbara! They are fairly large ducks, like the domestic ducks usually are. There are a lot of Pekin ducks and Mallards at Elizabeth Park, so I don’t know if those breeds would be the parents, or perhaps this is a domestic duck. There are actually a few of them at this park. They are unique though.

That one looks a bit rough, like he’s had a hard time.

Yes, he might be moulting as this was in the Summer when I took the photo. They are fairly large ducks, a Mallard-Pekin cross and they don’t fly as they are so big. There are several ducks like this at Elizabeth Park hanging out in the canal.

Miss Linda………………………………………….I’ve never seen a Mallard like that ……………………cool

They are very cool looking Ann Marie. This was at Elizabeth Park, but I often see them there in the Canal area by the little island near the big bridge.

Ha ha – now that would have been an excellent title for this post! There are lot of Pekin Ducks and Mallards at this park. These hybrid ducks are very big and don’t fly!

A very interesting duck. Great find. 🙂

Thanks Rebecca! There are a lot of Pekins and Mallards around Elizabeth Park. There are several of these Mallard hybrids there. They are quite large and don’t usually fly due to their size.

Wow! Now that’s a duck of a different color! One of my parrots is a hybrid… he’s a hybrid called a Catalina Macaw.

They have a few of these Hybrid Mallards at Elizabeth Park and at this park there are Pekins too and lots of Mallards. These are big ducks so they mostly swim in the canal, waddle around and I never see them flying. I suspect if there was a predator they could fly, but as a general rule they don’t.

One more place to experience. I’ve added Elizabeth Park to my list. Is it spring yet? 😊

Yes, be sure to go in May and June when there are goslings everywhere! They have a lot of Canada geese at Elizabeth Park. Sigh – 61 more days ’til spring. Maybe it will be early spring-like weather since it was early winter-like weather?

Yes, it was great to see the sun after so many gray and gloomy days, even if was “ineffective sunshine” as Accuweather labels it. 🙂

Oh, Accuweather! Technology gets it wrong. 😉

To be honest, I find the MSN weather gets it right more often than Accuweather! Because of my walking regimen (which seems to be off more than on lately), I scope out multiple sites and am relying on MSN more than ever lately.

I’ll have to check out MSN. 😉

Yes, see if you agree with their computer forecasting. I think they are pretty accurate. I am a weather worrier, so I also have a weather radio and check it daily even when no severe weather is predicted.

Weather is a good thing to be aware of. My hubby is a pilot and keeps track of weather daily as well. I usually just ask him. When he is gone, then I’m in trouble. 😜

You too Pepper … I think we’re going to deal with this unusual and erratic wintry weather through next weekend unfortunately.

Yes, for the third day in a row we had sun when I was out running the car, but unfortunately, a snowy day tomorrow, but on the bright side, it won’t be heavy snow, powdery and light as it is so cold. Trying to be Pollyanna here. 🙂

That is exactly what is facing right now, light and powdery snow. 😉

That was some snowfall wasn’t it? We got more snow in my area, thankfully I don’t live in Monroe. It was supposed to be heavier this afternoon, but ended up being the reverse. When I went out this morning to shovel, there was already about four inches and some of it in drifts. Yes, it was pretty, but ….

I enjoyed watching it come down. I especially enjoyed that our HOA takes care of the shoveling. I got off easy for the first time in years!

That twinkling snow is pretty. I try not to shovel if it’s snowing to keep from getting my clothes soaking wet, but since it was an all-day event, I had no choice. You are lucky the HOA takes care of the snow shoveling – that would make me happy. How nice to get a break after having to do this chore for years. This next cold snap we’re having will be even more brutal than last Friday and Saturday.

I completely understand having to keep up with all the snowfall. Stay safe and warm next weekend.

I came inside the house this morning after running the car and it was cold in the kitchen, so I did a few things and took my book to the back of the house where it was warmer and stayed there until about 5:30. At least the temps will moderate a little from today’s brutal cold, until Friday when it is the same as today.

Me neither – the weatherman said “on the bright side, there are no storms on the horizon.” So there is a ray of hope for us anyway.

Thanks Yvette! There are several of these Mallard Hybrids at this park. They are huge ducks and don’t fly. They are a mixture of white Pekins and Mallards. He looks a little shy too doesn’t he?
