BADGES

If only he would fall off, and this photographic cliché would be enhanced. 😁

Yes, it’s a wonder he didn’t do that just to be ornery. Sometimes these critters look at me with a pained expression on their face like “really Linda – go away already!”

So pretty!

Glad you like it – I do like the Mallard’s teal head glinting in the sunshine and especially when there is a good reflection.

Every handsome duck deserves to be so perfectly reflected!

I agree with you Barbara! It was a toss-up between admiring him and his teal head glinting in the sunshine, or admiring his reflection. 🙂

Doesn’t look as comfortable as the drake makes it seem. That log can’t be very smooth under belly!

You do have a point there Dave. That bark might be scraping its feathers. He likely held this pose for so long because he kept closing his eyes, doing a little sunbathing like your turtles do on their log(s). 🙂

Very nice! Looks like it was sitting still just for you. 👏

Thank you Pepper! I think it was sitting still for me too, although I can’t take all the credit because it was snoozing a little too. 🙂

He’s very comfortable ! We have a ditch along our road to our house and there is a male and female mallard hanging out in there, there’ s lots of water. They, or some other couple, come back every year.

He does look comfortable Susan and he kept snoozing every few minutes so I had to be patient to get a shot with his eyes open. I have to laugh when I see the Mallards make makeshift ponds when there is a ditch or even a low area in the grass. I had some photos a few years ago of Mallards paddling around in a low area after a heavy rain the day before; it’s like “woo hoo, my own personal pond!”

I thought he was handsome too Rebecca. Yes, sitting and reflecting, literally and figuratively!

A most beautiful creature! We humans, as the parrots here are aware of, are very plain-looking, and, unlike birds, as we age, we really show our age.

Yes, we are boring and plain-looking indeed Tom. The ducks are beautiful, especially the Mallard drakes when the sun hits their iridescent heads just right. The State of Michigan just made the Wood Duck our official state duck.

Is a state duck different than the state bird?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes Tom – the state duck is a new category for Michigan. Our state bird is the Robin.

Robins are very awesome birds. However, in the spring, often males fight over territory. The other day, i broke up a fighting pair by saying, “No, guys, no fighting is needed.” 😉
