About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

These are really lovely shots! All that’s missing is the frog on the lilly pad. 😁

Thank you JP! I thought the raindrops made the shots seem more dramatic. I have never been able to get a shot of a frog on a lilly pad unfortunately, though I once got a big bullfrog peeking out between the duckweed at a marsh. I’ll keep trying!

Nothing says Summer like water lilies in a Koi pond. I really like them too Laurie. Yes, they were very aromatic, not only because it was a hot and humid morning, but it had rained earlier, so the scent really carried.

They are beautiful aren’t they? And the blooms, as well as the lily pads, were in perfect shape. Sometimes the lily pads are mottled by brown marks or torn. They smelled nice too, on a hot and humid day and it had rained earlier.

Yes, Terri – they are such pretty flowers and even nicer in this Koi pond with the fish popping up between the lily pads. I think I like them even more that the Lotuses. It was nice to see the blooms were all open and with no mars on the leaves, which are often mottled with brown. I hope you see them too!

  12. Nice shots of the lilies, Linda! I had miniature floating plants in some of my aquariums, but had to get rid of them, as they reproduced too quickly.

Thank you Tom! They are beautiful blooms aren’t they? And these were perfect, with perfect pads as well, no mottled brown marks. I had a few shots of the Koi poking their heads up amongst the lily pads and decided in the end just to use the lily pads only – simple beauty. I think their roots would get big as well for your aquarium even though it is a large aquarium.

      • I have a dozen aquariums. They are not all huge, but most of them are large. It’s a lot of work, but i enjoy it!

Tom – wow! I knew you had several aquariums along your walls, but I had no idea you had a dozen aquariums! I know they are a lot of work. I had a friend who had a large aquarium in his office, then he got transferred to Chicago and he had to pack up everything to take it with him. Now he is retired and back in Michigan, so the aquarium is at home now. He and his wife travel a lot, so they have a “fish caretaker” to come feed them. 🙂

Thank you Barbara! Something to look forward to seeing this Summer. It was a very warm and humid morning after the rain which I thought made those lilies look even better.

Ann Marie – do you think it is the real Spring or an imposter? I read a comment on a site that I follow that said it was snowing in Elizabeth Park this morning! I wonder if the anglers were still lined up along the Boardwalk?
