A bird in a box of lettuce!

It sure looks like it plopped right down in box of lettuce – yes!

I wonder if he can find food in all that greenery!

It sure makes you wonder if he can part the greenery to find a fish! He is probably overwhelmed by it all!

I see him! But he’s not wearing his trademark striped shirt. Now I’m looking for a frog on one of those lily pads!

Yes that is true JP … I should have thought of that and he’s also missing his hat and glasses. 🙂 I hope I find a frog on a lily pad this year. To date, I’ve only seen one large bullfrog in the duckweed so far. I’ll put it as a goal along with photographing a rainbow. We get enough rain these days that it should be a cinch, only usually the rain is due to storms and I’m glad they are over and don’t look outside.

Good one! 😀 Egrets are such interesting birds.

Thank you Debbie! Yes, they are interesting and I like seeing and photographing Egrets on the ground more than when they perch in trees. They are so skinny that they just kind of blend into the background.

Fun title and this photo makes the curve of the body really stand out – egrets are such beauties and all those leaves sure add mood

Thank you Yvette! Yes, they are beautiful and graceful looking birds with that long neck. This was taken in the marsh as the Lotuses were still growing, about a month before they would bloom, then the Egret would not have stood out as much.

Waldo is hiding very well here, Linda. It helps that egrets can stand stock still and it takes a minute to see them! Great shot!

Thank you Terri! He looks like he thinks he pulled a fast one in all the Lotus Leaves – maybe he would have if they were all blooming! 🙂

Thanks Anne! Waldo was a little after “my time” but it worked for this photo!

Awesome shot, Linda! These are definitely predatory birds.

Thank you Tom! I wish I could have gotten a similar shot of an Egret when it was in the blooming Lotuses – it would have been more difficult to find him/her then!

Miss Linda………………………………well……………….there must be fish hiding under all of those leaves or he wouldn’t be there………………….

Yes Ann Marie, I’m guessing he thought it would be a good place to go for fish as no other birds would bother wading through the Lotus leaves. I hope he was successful. I’m amazed when I see the heron get a big fish and down it in one gulp and that fish is wiggling down that long neck after he swallows it!

Love it and love how pictures can tell such a story if we let it.

Thank you Barbara! How fun to be an Egret and just embed yourself amongst the Lotuses. Imagine if the Lotuses were in bloom – then it would be tough to find this beautiful bird.

We are in South Korea right now and have seen so many egrets!

I remembered you said you would be in Japan and I thought you said in May. That’s amazing about the egrets in South Korea – are they different that our Great Egrets and Little Egrets? Safe travels to you.

The egrets are the white ones that we have in Canada. I’m not sure of the proper name though. We saw a Mottled Duck on our walk this morning and I hadn’t heard of them before.

We just have the Great Egret here. I just Googled Mottled Duck – it looks similar to a female Mallard. I am not a very good birder … I’d lump them all together! 🙂 Are you still in Singapore?

I hope it’s not too hot for you and Clint to take a kimono photo! We are 25+ degrees cooler today and the heat is back on!
