Thanks Brian! I guess I have to pack treats for my feathered friends going forward. Cheez-its are pretty hard to resist (especially the white cheddar variety, for me anyway)!

Cheez-its are big no for birds Linda as you know. Maybe some cracked corn and grain is better.
I have no idea what Cheez-its are but I am sure they are delicious and addictive for people 😂

You’re right Brian, I know they are bad and on top of it they were darker Cheez-its, so maybe the kind with taco seasoning or some spicy seasoning. They are delicious bite-sized, square-shaped snack crackers and come with many different flavors. I’m a purist and like the cheddar cheese original flavor, but the white cheese Cheez-its are my favorite. I only buy them for a treat occasionally as I feel I have an obligation not to allow them get stale! 🙂

Yes, that white duck stuck out like a sore thumb didn’t it? I have never seen a Pekin duck at this park in the past, so that was a first. They waddled right past me to the kids with the bag of Cheez-its.

Yes, fail to bring treats, go back where you came from!! I once grabbed the wrong bag to take to the Park. I used a grocery store bag and put the bags of peanuts inside. But I had bought some items to go downstairs, hung them in a grocery store bag on the railing and grabbed that bag instead of the treat bag. Got to the Park, opened the bag and had to go back home as I couldn’t show up emptyhanded!

Luckily none of my peanut pals saw me. I opened the bag as I approached the Park as sometimes a squirrel ran over in the parking lot. Oops – had to hightail it home!

Thanks Pepper – they came waddling over and I was happy I got these shots because once the kids took out the big bag of Cheez-its, the ducks just left me hanging. 🙂

I have Pepper – how about you? I have never spent so many days in a row in the house, not venturing outside, in the Summer months, the season I’d usually be outside enjoying myself.

I ended up spending more time outdoors than I planned on for a couple of days in a row. Not by choice, but there were things that needed to be done. Glad that things are finally a bit better.

That’s good you rebel you! I haven’t been outside to even need a mask, but put one on anyway when I dashed out momentarily to be safe because I could smell smoke in the house last Thursday and Friday.

I think these storms tonight/Tuesday should eliminate some of the smoke and we might even get a few nice days this week … something to look forward to!

Me too Dave, especially if they are the White Cheddar variety. I get a small box of White Cheddar Cheez-its once or twice a year, usually around the holidays, a small indulgence.

That’s right Terri, one look at the Cheez-its the kids were holding and scattering on the ground and they waddled right past me in record time. No treats = no poses for you lady!

Yes, you’re right Ann Marie – she was quicker than the others, leading the pack, even though she was much larger than them. She was on a mission to get to the Cheez-its before the others!

Tom, the white one is a Pekin duck, the grown-up version of those sweet yellow chicks that some people buy to give their kids for Easter. They are beautiful ducks and very peaceful, not skittish at all and don’t take off when they see humans. They are quite large and don’t fly due to their size.

That’s interesting. They are beautiful in their own way. It’s neat that they aren’t skittish. One would think that they would be very vulnerable to coyotes and foxes, if they don’t fly.

Yes, I think it’s interesting too Tom. We don’t have the Pekins at all the parks and I just did a post for August where I was walking past the petting farm at Heritage Park and someone had just put out a fresh kiddie wading pool in the barnyard for the ducks. They were clustered around it, drinking at first. I often see them paddling in it sometimes in Summer when I walk by to get to the Botanical Gardens. But, just then a large domestic duck called an Ancona duck hopped into the pool and took up most of the pool, so they all waddled away. It was kind of funny to watch. Yes, the Pekins and any of the domestic ducks like the Mallard Hybrids would be like when the ducks and geese are losing their flight feathers right now in their Eclipse Molt and must stay at or near water until the new ones grow in as otherwise become prey to any land predators.

Yes, it is a go-to snack for a lot of people – they are delicious. They weren’t interested in me sweet-talking them once they say the Cheez-its! 🙂
