This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy.       Yes, birds have that look sometimes Dave, without even being vocal. 🙂 We had pet birds through the years and they all had distinct personalities and you could read them like a book sometimes. I’m surprised I got to take as many shots as I did before this little sparrow flew off!

    Cute little bird! I hope it isn’t negatively affected by the Canadian smoke. A whole lot of birds are being negatively affected.

      I thought it was cute too Tom. It wasn’t singing at all, but this was taken in mid-June before the wildfire smoke set in. I worry about the birds too. Songbirds will be impacted the most is what I’m hearing. I believe that from having had canaries – they can’t tolerate a lot of things that other domestic pet birds can – no Teflon pan use, no ironing in the same room as the canary, no leaving the oven door down, no aerosol sprays in the same room. The weather finally improved here and I got out three days in a row – wore myself out. But today, I did see a few butterflies, two new to me that I got photos of: Eyed Brown and a Giant Swallowtail. I wanted to see my photos as I took a lot and I did a Google Image Search to get their names. The Giant Swallowtail I thought was a small bird at first – it was moving very quickly and I lost it a few times, but was patient.
