About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy.     As annoying as they are, they are so pretty! When I was a kid you only saw seagulls at the water. Now they follow farmers plowing fields and wait at fast food restaurants for people to feed them fries.

      I think they are pretty too Diane. I have taken more seagull photos lately as I was down by the water a few times. My mom and I used to go to an A&W and it had a long roof that covered over most of the parking lot. The seagulls would line up and wait for the carhops to take the trays out, then sit there patiently waiting on a bite of coney dog bun, or a fry. They love fries – I’ll vouch for that!

    Gulls are so much fun to watch. My grandkids used to like to feed them when we went to the beach. In February, they just blanket the farm fields around here.

      Yes they are Laurie and I got three sets of seagull shenanigan shots to share in upcoming blog post on that one occasion. I was at the Detroit River at Bishop Park and a guy came along with his kids and had a huge bag of bread … seagulls came out of nowhere and swarmed around like “The Birds” – when the bread ran out, they dispersed. I got some interesting shots of them lined up along the boardwalk in a row.

      Ha ha – he sure was rude Ann Marie. This was after a guy was feeding the seagulls bread. Within a few minutes he created a feeding frenzy while I was walking to the car, so I stopped to watch. When the seagulls finished the bread, they all flew to the railing along the boardwalk (at Bishop Park) and then things got interesting, like here – this guy with bad manners!

      Thanks Ally. When I saw the photo on the screen, I figured it would be perfect for after the holidays. How prophetic that I published this at 5:00 a.m., the same day that will go down in history for what happened in D.C.

      Glad you like it Yvette. I was down at the River and a man came along to feed the seagulls. There had been just one seagull perched on the boardwalk railing. Suddenly seagulls were everywhere. I stayed taking pictures (it was like the movie “The Birds”). The seagulls finished the bread and moved on – about a dozen lined up on the railing. Have to sort thru those photos, but this angry seagull got my attention. The other one left posthaste!

      Thank you Barbara. Seagulls are interesting to watch sometimes. I will be doing another Wordless Wednesday post about a pair of seagulls. One looks like it is laughing hysterically, while the other one just looks at it with a quizzical look on its face.
