… (or a firecracker).
Stay unflappable (unlike this flag) …
But most of all, stay safe. Click here for a fun 4th of July greeting.

About Linda Schaub
This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each and every post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things I see on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, and so my blog is peppered with folks I meet, or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post that day. I respect and appreciate nature and my interaction with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. My career has been in the legal field and I have been a legal secretary for four decades, primarily working in downtown Detroit, and now working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in print journalism in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met and shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing once again in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy – hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Thanks Sabine! Same to you – ours is dwindling down, with many fireworks around.

I haven’t heard any fireworks all day! Hopefully it stays that way!

Well you are lucky Sabine … it sure was an active night here. The big boomers, just like in the professional shows!

You did a marvelous job with the different photos of the flag and that blue sky – and bird –

Glad you liked it Yvette – it was almost a Wordless Wednesday. That was a huge flag at Humbug Marsh and it was a windy day. I came home with about 20 shots of the flag at different states of unfurling with the contrail in back. I don’t recall that soaring bird when I took the shot so it was a nice surprise when the photos were on the screen.

Thanks Sandra – I wonder what type of bird it is? I didn’t notice the bird when I took the photos.
I was just struck by the contrail in back of the flag which kept flapping around. It’s a huge flag at Humbug Marsh.

The video card is adorable. That bird tapping its foot on the Liberty Bell is great. And the strawberry float with the dogs. Perfect. Hope your Fourth was fun.

Glad you liked it Ally. I thought it was one of the cuter cards. That bird tapping its foot looked realistic. I’ve seen funny videos of cockatoos dancing around or stomping their feet to the beat of a song. My Fourth was quiet – we had 93 degrees today with a real feel of 100 and it was hot yesterday too, so I got some organizing and cleaning inside the house. Inspired to do more now!

Great shots Linda, esp. the first one! And I loved the card as always – neat that you were able to provide a link to it.

Thanks Joni – that first one was a lucky shot. This is a huge flag at Humbug Marsh and I saw the contrail behind it and it was windy, so decided I’d try getting shots of it flapping in the breeze. When I saw the shots on the screen, there was the bird … I don’t remember seeing it. What I do is send the card to myself and then access the link and copy it … so that way everyone can enjoy it.

It was quiet Janis but I got some much-needed organization and cleaning done in my house since we’re back in another heat wave (today was 93 with a real feel of 100) – so it felt good to be inside and productive, but lame as to fun!

Your city is much tamer than mine Ann Marie … it sounded like a battlefield in my neighborhood. I’m grateful for the peace and quiet this evening though.

Hi Linda, very clever! Why do they need to chain the flag? No one would steel it, would they?

Thanks Jeanine – glad you liked it. I never thought about why they chain the flag, but you know what … we have people who steal every type of metal. The “hot thing” right now is stealing catalytic converters off cars while people have them parked in a parking lot while in a store or parked outside their home. If a house is vacant for too long, people go in and take anything metal – they steal air conditioner units!

Oh my … Next thing is steeling copper from construction sites … Land of the free. Stay safe over there, it’s loosing all it’s shiny parts …
