Shelley, I saw these bathing beauties mid-Summer and decided on the post title as I snapped their photo. I could have used a wide-angle lens as there were a few more turtles, but I had to crop the photo or they’d have looked like “ants on a log” instead. 🙂

Yes, they like lining up on that log, often by seniority and if they catch sight of me, they plop off one by one!

I love to see them lined up on a log. Unfortunately, if spooked, it only takes about two seconds for them to all disappear.

You’re so right about that Rebecca. It amazes me, as I’ll try to take a photo and be very quiet, but they plop into the water when they see the whites of my eyes!

Thanks Laurie – it is difficult to keep them lined up without plopping into the water once they see me. These turtles were lost in thought I guess, so I got one shot in before they got spooked. I thought of that song right away as I took the photo and decided it would be the title of this post. I probably left everyone with an earworm without even hearing the music! 🙂

Thank you Raj – those turtles are all different sizes and line up to sunbathe. Once they see you, they immediately slide off the log into the water.

And they posed for about 30 seconds Ally. I usually see them, then as I take the photo, they all plop into the water. I like that … turtles in a row instead of ducks in a row. 🙂

You know Dave, I actually have a picture of a crow on a sunny day taken last weekend … I was saving it for Halloween, but I should have used it here instead of my turtle friends. There were even more turtles, but I had to crop the shot or they would have looked like ants on a log. I thought of you when I did this post as you liked the turtles at Heritage Park sunbathing on their ramp. 🙂

Thank you TD. I got the turtle shot mid-Summer and picked the title as I took the photo, thinking I’d use it as we transition to Fall (thankfully for me too, although we sure haven’t had the scorching hot temps like you have endured). Fall has always been my favorite season, even though it means Winter is just around the corner.

Well Ann Marie, we have some more hot weather for awhile they say, so the turtles will sunbathe some more before hibernating at the bottom of the marsh. Meanwhile, you and I will do that addition and subtraction thing with our outfits we wear for walking over the next few weeks.

You’re right Diane – that just what it looks like. If they miss, they fall into the water, but they usually do that anyway if they see a human. 🙂

I agree Barbara – it’s very peaceful to see them sunbathing. But, once they catch sight of a human, one by one they plop into the water – tranquility for them is over.

I love the turtles – it’s a good thing they stay on the log, because it keeps them out of the soup.

They sure are peaceful sunning themselves on the log aren’t they? They are safe there, although their fear of ending up in the soup is why they plop into the water just as soon as they see any humans come too close.
