Yes, for your sake I hope your local groundhog will NOT be seeing his shadow!

Me too Barbara – my fingers and toes are crossed. We are finally turning a corner on Friday afternoon (morning is cloudy – good for an early Spring prediction as you know). Then we have warmer and sunny weather for about six days! Then we’re above average they say.

Very good. I love taking shadow selfies 🙂

Glad you liked it Brian. I love taking them too, especially the long shadows of late Fall. A good shadow day!

Me too Linda – especially the late Fall long shadows. You and I are tall to begin with, so our shadows seem to go on forever. 🙂

We are finally turning a corner Friday afternoon Laurie – we will be close to 50 over the weekend. It is the first totally sunny day, warm and precip free in three weeks. We will be cloudy Friday morning, so no shadow for Phil which is good news.

I’ve never understood the prediction of spring thing. As far as I’m concerned, if he sees his shadow it’ll be six more weeks till spring. If he doesn’t, spring will be in only six weeks! Cute shoes! 😉

Ha ha – yes, the whim of a groundhog is not a stellar predictor of the weather – I agree with you Zazzy. However, we have a female groundhog in Howell, Michigan at their nature center. She is “Woody the Woodchuck” and she is more accurate than Phil. They have a lot of fanfare around Woody too. My shoes are so comfy. When I first started my walking regimen, I went to a mom and pop shoe store to find a good pair of walking shoes. The owner, a walker herself, recommended “Punters” by Easy Spirit and said she wore them and recommended them to all her customers and never had a complaint. They are very heavy but I’ve never had a blister and they’re like slippers to me.

You might be a hair early, Linda. I’m glad you have sunshine at home. We’re driving home today and hope to arrive to some sunshine too! So if Puxahooha (cant remember the ground hogs name) doesn’t see his shadow on the second, winter will be over sooner. Enjoy your day!

I know, but I wanted to get a jump on ol’ Phil what’s-his-name. 🙂 We have a female groundhog called “Woody the Woodchuck” and they have a lot of fanfare around her appearance when she steps out of her “house” that’s built inside a tree. She lives at the Howell Nature Center and has a better prediction accuracy than Phil! We will have a cloudy Friday morning, so I am hopeful for an early Spring.

That’s cool you have a local groundhog to predict spring, Linda! Keeping our fingers crossed too–although rain begins now that we’re back home and continues for a few days. 98% of our snow in 9 Mile is GONE! Weird winter!

Yes, the TV stations all go out to cover it and it is a lot of fun. Same here – we had a 2.5 snowfall yesterday (which was predicted as a dusting). It was very heavy snow when I shoveled this morning but totally gone by sundown. Weird indeed!

Punxsutawney Phil is the name of the groundhog, lol!

I always have to look up the spelling of Phil’s name … I’ll bet the residents abbreviate the town when referring to it. 🙂 I have a friend who lives in Honeoye Falls, New York. For the life of me, I cannot remember how to write it nor do I know how to pronounce it. 🙂

Parker needs some so I can get a few photos of him. I went two weeks without a visit and it has been since Saturday – rain (maybe freezing rain) tonight, then good weather for six day. I am ecstatic!

I think someone owes us an early spring. Or just a spring. And some sun, definitely some sun.

We have had a rough three weeks Dawn – we sure deserve this sunny weekend they are forecasting – in fact we have warmer and sunnier days Saturday through next Thursday. Finally!

Is the gopher supposed to come out today ? I hope spring is right around the corner, and by that I mean next week….. lol

No, I was a couple of days early Susan. 🙂 Phil does his prediction on Friday morning. We are supposed to have a cloudy morning, so no shadow – yay (if you buy into this stuff).

What’s & why last week have not nice at all? I Can’t understand!

Hi Raj. Three weeks ago today we had snow, freezing rain and a flash freeze that night. The snow was covered in ice as was the sidewalks and driveway, so it was very dangerous. Then we had -20F (-28C) temps for one week. Then we had snow two more times, then torrential rain one day, then rain every day for a week, plus heavy fog The rain and melting snow caused flooding. I was lucky, but many were not.

OMG! It’s very bed for one week. But I like snow, freezing rain and a flash freeze that night 🤧
That’ time very cold and wearing more warm clothes. Now how it’s weather? You are so lucky,Linda
Iam so glad you share me. Tack care,Linda!

The weather was nice today Raj – dry all day, but no sun (even though they said we’d have some) … maybe tomorrow, so maybe I’ll get a few photos taken.

We will be gray and cloudy in the morning, then a week of wonderful weather – I hope the clouds and warm and dry weather mean we’re done with Winter until November. Thank you Ally – long shadows in Fall made me look like I was much taller than my 5′ 9″ that I am.

Yes, I hope Phil is right too Tom … that was a bad three weeks of weather woes!

Well, was the forecast correct? Did your girlfriend Woodsy she her shadow this morning, Linda?
According to our weather people, Phil didn’t see his shadow; so six more weeks of winter with false spring days in the mix here.
Soon it will be spring!

Hi TD – we had a gray morning here too, but our Michigan groundhog, unlike Phil, says it will be six more weeks of Winter. Woody is actually more accurate than Phil – I hope she is wrong this year. We are finally turning a corner and will have nice weather beginning tomorrow – warmer, snow/rain-free which is nice after the past three weeks of weather woes.

I always thought the ground hog thing was so stupid. I’d rather you do your shadow every time!!!!

Well our groundhog is supposedly more correct than Phil, but this year SHE predicted more Winter. Our meteorologists can’t get it right sometimes, so …. Tuesday morning we were to have a “dusting” and we got 2.5 inches of heavy and wet snow and it was slippery underneath and in the northern suburbs, they got 5 inches and they were supposed to just get a dusting as well. I will make a shadow selfie every year for you going forward Diane!

Linda, I was thinking about you this morning. I was a nervous nellie when our patio umbrella looked like it was about to blow away. And on our way to church, we saw felled trees and branches on the road. Ellis’ eyes got wide with fear and said the wind might blow here away.
I like the shadow shot!! I’ll ask again…selfie??

Hi Esther – I have heard a lot about a river and emergency alerts in your city today on the national news. I hope you all stay safe. The windy conditions sound terrible. You all have been thru so much the last year so I hope bad weather is not your nemesis here. I’m sorry … I missed that was a question about the shadow selfie. Yes it is me taking pictures on a sunny day in November. I took more yesterday when we had another sunny day, first one in weeks! I am tall to begin with, but look much taller than my 5′ 9″ tall.

It’s been downpours the past 2 days and lots of power outages around me. Thankfully, we haven’t had that issue, but many of my friends were without power yesterday and today. It’s rain and the winds too. We’re staying put and chilling out at home. You won’t believe this but kids got sick again with a cold. I got it too. My goodness…almost every week we have something going on.
You are tall!! Glamorous, lady!

Hi Esther – I thought of you today – are your family members in San Diego okay? I heard there were tornado warnings up earlier. Our news was full of the Crumbley trial verdict today so I just heard about San Diego on the radio (national news at the top of the hour). It’s no wonder you guys got sick with all the dampness and cold weather – you didn’t have time to bounce back fully after the last time. On my errands yesterday, especially at the grocery store, lots of people coughing and they said flu is at peak now – sigh. I only saw one other person masked up. I am tall and it was always a joke as my father was 5′ 3″ and my mother was 5′ 2″ … the old milkman joke. I guess my paternal grandmother was very tall – I never met her. My maternal grandparents were not tall either.

Oh my, Linda, you are the odd duck in your family! I thought your father was tall and that’s where you got your height. 5’9″ is a great height for a woman and rare. I’m 5’5″, but I shrunk to 5’4″.
You’re right…we didn’t have adequate time to bounce back. But how do we bounce back when there’s setbacks left and right?!
Our family lives in the L.A. area, and they are doing good. Lots of rain but no damages. It seems like we have family in SD, probably cause we go down every time we visit family in L.A. SD is our vacation spot and our ideal retirement city. We’ll see!
You’d be surprised too at the number of people not wearing masks in public. But you hear the hacking and wet coughs that make your ears cringe and heart thump with fright.

Esther, I have pictures taken of me with each of my parents and I was towering over them and that was when I was a teenager! I should see if I have shrunk at all. I don’t know why I thought you had family in San Diego, but I do know you like visiting the aquarium there. Yes, I heard everyone the other day at the grocery store. I am sure people think of me as an oddity for still masking up, but I just don’t want to take chances as I know too many people still seriously ill with Covid.

You were the lucky one and inherited the tall gene!! I’m medium height. My dad is 5’10” and my mom 5’2″.
Yes, please take care and mask up. I too feel awkward sometimes masking up all the time, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Also, my kids are so trained to wear masks that they don’t go anywhere without it. If I accidentally leave it in the car, they tell me to go back and get it.

Yes, I am and now is easier than as a teenager when I could not find clothes to accommodate my long arms and legs. That’s good that the kids are so diligent about the masks. Is it cold enough there that the mask fogs up your glasses Esther? What product do you and Ellis use? I use FogAway which I buy at the eye doctor’s office (and it’s available at Amazon too), but I wouldn’t say it works all that great and I have to do it every time I go outside.
