About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Who knew that there were gorillas and zebras roaming back yards in Michigan?

I know Laurie – pretty soon I will have to buy and carry some gorilla and zebra spray in case I run into these beasts again. The ducks were so funny, just kind of sashaying past the “wildlife” then turned around and posed for a picture. 🙂

I am glad I almost had you convinced for a minute there Dave. 🙂 The gorilla couldn’t pass muster as it had a birdbath in front of him/her. The big ducks were the star of the show as they sashayed past the wildlife and stopped and posed for a photo. This was at the Botanical Gardens which is right next to the petting farm. I once went for a “Christmas in July” event where Santa, Mrs. Claus and some reindeer were to be featured. It was a hot and humid day, so it was sans reindeer on the advice of their handler. I was bummed, but still did a post about Santa in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts.

  4. Hee hee, love those pink footprints at the end, Linda. Makes you wonder. Someone has a good imagination putting the zebras and gorilla’s out. I didn’t post for WW today, too busy to read this week. Enjoy your week.

Those footprints were so cute Terri. They were having a little “wildlife weekend” event at the Heritage Park Petting Farm that day I was there, so these “wildlife” were out. 🙂 They also had a real camel, giant tortoise, alligator and a wallaby. I was standing at the Botanical Gardens and saw those two large domestic ducks waddle away from the farm and down the path, then they stood there and posed for me. 🙂

Thank you Ally. The Heritage Park Petting Farm was having a “wildlife weekend” the day I took these photos. They brought in an alligator, large tortoise, camel and a wallaby for the kids, plus they took the gorilla and zebra out of storage to advertise the event. It was perfect when the large domestic ducks waddled down the path, probably escaping the noise on the speakers and came over to pose. 🙂

Glad you liked it TD. I always liked that song so I thought it would be fun for this post. I was at the Botanical Gardens, which is next to the Petting Farm. I’ve seen chickens and guinea pea fowl “escape” the Farm and wander over – this time it was these two big domestic ducks with the “wildlife” nearby. 🙂

Glad you liked the post Janis. The ducks waddled out and photo bombed the “wildlife”. Zoos today aren’t like they were when we were kids, that’s for sure.

Thank you Tom – they waddled along the edge of the farm, then over to me, then sat there posing so nicely (and they didn’t have to be bribed with peanuts either. 🙂

I always liked Simon & Garfunkel and that song is a favorite of mine too Diane. They did a good job with the video syncing it to the song. The petting zoo at Heritage Park was having a “Wild Weekend” event with a camel, big tortoise, alligator and they had all kinds of jungle-type music blaring on the loudspeaker. Maybe that’s why these two domestic ducks from the Farm wandered over to the Botanical Gardens for some peace and quiet. 🙂
