Ha ha – yes they do JP! I had to Google Sputnik light fixtures to see an example. I had never seen one before – for $239.00 you can get one from Amazon.

They are Allium plants and they are also called Wild Onion. I took this picture last Summer at the volunteer garden near my home. I went looking for butterflies and there were all these dead Allium plants and they looked like sparklers to me. They are tall and have light purple flowers that look like a ball.

I thought they were pretty too Barbara. I took this photo last Summer at the volunteer garden. I went there looking for butterflies and found these dead Allium plants, a/k/a Wild Onion. They are tall and their little light purple flowers are clustered together like a pom pom. I decided they’d be perfect for Independence Day!

Yes, they look just like fireworks when the plant dies off – amazing isn’t it? They are very pretty when in bloom too, a lilac-colored flower that looks like a pom-pom on top of a long stalk. Yes, much quieter than the real deal. 🙂

I love allium so I planted it and it died off by the next year. They are perennials aren’t they. Great title for this post Linda.

Yes they are perennials Diane – you have such a green thumb, so I wonder why they died off? I should go and check them out at the volunteer garden as they might still be in bloom. I took these photos last Summer after I went to the volunteer perennial garden looking for butterflies and saw these allium which I thought were unique! Thank you – I though they looked like the sparklers we used to hold in our hands when we were kids.

They sure do Linda, the grandkids come here and do sparklers and other legal fireworks then we watch the neighbors display at dark. He usually does about 45 minutes and they look Like we were watching them at a business or city’s display. They are exciting to come again this year.

I thought I remembered you telling me once that your neighbor put on a great show every 4th of July. We just had a good rain for about a half-hour which I’m happy for as it made the grass wet in case a firecracker landed in the grass. I hope your weather is good … I went out this morning and it was sickening hot.

Thank you Linda! Those Allium are beautiful when in bloom and I thought they were pretty unique here after they went to seed. I actually took these photos last Summer and saved them for now. This is at a volunteer garden and they have a lot of perennials and bees butterflies when the flowers are peaking in late Summer.

We are hotter than normal right now here in Southeast Michigan, but I know we are not alone with heat waves going on in Europe right now. Hemisphere flipped for the opposite season has always fascinated me. I had a childhood friend whose father was transferred to Australia for his job and we corresponded for a while and it was interesting. I always gaze at garden pics in the middle of our Winter too! It seems difficult to believe sometimes that any flowers, bushes and trees will come back after months of cold, ice and snow.

It is pretty amazing how resilient Mother Nature is, especially when you see all the flowers pushing up through the Earth after a brutally cold Winter. We are in this hot spell right now and just had a storm, thankfully not volatile, as many of them have been this Summer. I am ready for Autumn which is my favorite season. I think the older I get, the less tolerant I am of all the heat and humidity.

Thank you Tom! This is at a volunteer garden and I took the photos last Summer. I went over to look for butterflies and bees in the perennial garden and found these instead. Nature’s sparklers. 🙂 I think they are prettier and long-lasting too and yes, safer!

I thought they looked so unusual having gone to seed. They are even prettier in bloom. These were the purple variety, but they have white ones too.
