A WEE EASTER TAIL, ER … TALE.
I was meandering along a woodsy trail, just me, myself and I.
And all was right with the world, until someone called out “hi!”
My head swiveled ‘round – was my mind playing tricks on me?
Wary now, I stood very still, but there was no one I could see.
“Keep calm” I told myself, then got my whistle and pepper spray.
Armed to the teeth, I was ready to face whatever came my way.
So cautiously, I took baby steps, all the while looking to and fro.
But, then I saw the shadow in the woods – is this a friend or foe?
I gasped and told myself “Linda – stay cool and collect and do not freeze!”
And just then a very handsome bunny bounded out from the trees.
My fears were unfounded: the gent bowed and offered me his paw.
I’ll admit to y’all I forgot my manners and just gawked at him in awe.
He handed me a foil-wrapped treat and said “I’m THE Easter Bunny.”
I knew that this sweet, meet-n- greet would be blogworthy and funny.
So, did I ask for two-step authentication; was he really Peter Cottontail?
Maybe he’d show me how he hops down this path i.e. The Bunny Trail?
I believed in Santa Claus AND the Easter Bunny once, admittedly eons ago.
Now here we were, chattin’ it up along a trail – yep, he was no ordinary Joe.
What a delightful encounter, a fun-filled Easter morn thanks to serendipity.
All too soon he said “toodle-oo” and then I was bummed we didn’t get a selfie.
He turned around … “when you bite into the bunny – is it ears first or the bum?”
I said “ear’s lookin’ at ya kid” and then blew a kiss to my newest furry chum.
So, what is YOUR preference? 🙂

Is that your artwork? Very nice! In our family we have a story about the year my niece (who is only 3 years younger than me) ate all the ears off of my chocolate bunnies. I had put them in a row on the windowsill. She went down the row and bit them all off. I think she was like 5 at the time.

Yes it is Kate. When it was still so crummy and cold out, I took some time and did several paintings. I will have more coming up for Earth Day and Mother’s Day. I like this ink-and-wash technique which is less precise and more whimsical than the more precise butterflies and birds I was doing last year … something different. That is a funny story and I’m sure your niece will never live that story down! I got a foil-wrapped bunny every year and I didn’t want to eat it because it was the only time of the year I got to eat candy, so I would eat the other treats first. Every year, my mom would put it in the fridge, then accidentally on purpose, drop it and say “time to eat this bunny because I’m in the mood for a piece of chocolate!” I thought it was mean at the time!

That was cute! Loved the poem…and the paintings! For me, it’s tradition to eat the ears first….but I didn’t buy any this year as I am trying to be good with my cholesterol.

Thank you Joni! I had some fun writing the poem and doing the paintings to go along with it. I always bite off the ears first and did that today. I bought a small hollow bunny to have this year.

I hope you did treat yourself today. I did enjoy mine, milke chocolate – mmm. I was eating dark chocolate squares for several years until I found out that brand was bad for high cadmium levels, so I stopped eating it. It was the darkest chocolate they made, so it was very bitter.

Thank you Rebecca! When I photographed that bunny last year, I decided it was going to be my Easter post since that Cottontail was so close up. I’m glad you like the drawings and poem too. I had a lot of fun creating this whole post and when I went looking for a Jacquie Lawson card to go with the post, I was happy to find one about a drawing that became a painting and then colorful Easter eggs. It is sometimes difficult to choose a card from all the Jacquie Lawson cards as they are all beautiful and so well done.

Well thank you Laurie – now my head will swell! 🙂 Last year when I got these photos of this Cottontail I knew I had my Easter 2026 blog post, then I decided to kick it up a notch and do some ink-and-wash paintings and a poem too. It was fun creating this post. I’m glad you liked the e-card too. I was pleasantly surprised to find Jacquie Lawson had a card of someone painting bunnies to go with this post. Happy belated Easter to you as well Laurie. I’ve been having some internet issues last night and today, which I think are due to the high winds we are experiencing.

Thank you Barbara! Last year I saw that cute bunny and got those shots and decided he/she would be the star of my Easter 2026 blog post. Then I thought a cute poem and a couple of paintings would make it even more fun. The Jacquie Lawson e-card was perfect to accompany the paintings. Thank you Susan! I had some fun with this post after adding the poem and bunny drawings to my photos of the Cottontail I saw last Summer. I put him away for this Easter. Our Easter was a bit cold and we had some rain, but thankfully not severe weather. We are getting some snow flurries overnight but this afternoon I was reading and it was quiet and suddenly I heard this thumping noise and it was graupel or hail. Weatherman said graupel, but this was too loud … sounded like Rudolph and his buddies were prancing around up there. Spring where are you?

Thank you Monica! I got the bunny shots last Summer and saved them for Easter, then decided to add some fun stuff to the post. I actually see more bunnies in the neighborhood than I do at the park where I usually walk. A few years ago, it was still Winter and a rabbit made a nest in someone’s front yard on the route I take to the park. She’d be there laying in the snow on top of the nest. I never got to see the babies and only got shots of her. I think I stared at her too much as she never made a nest there again. 🙂
