About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

If only he would fall off, and this photographic cliché would be enhanced. 😁

Doesn’t look as comfortable as the drake makes it seem. That log can’t be very smooth under belly!

You do have a point there Dave. That bark might be scraping its feathers. He likely held this pose for so long because he kept closing his eyes, doing a little sunbathing like your turtles do on their log(s). 🙂

He’s very comfortable ! We have a ditch along our road to our house and there is a male and female mallard hanging out in there, there’ s lots of water. They, or some other couple, come back every year.

He does look comfortable Susan and he kept snoozing every few minutes so I had to be patient to get a shot with his eyes open. I have to laugh when I see the Mallards make makeshift ponds when there is a ditch or even a low area in the grass. I had some photos a few years ago of Mallards paddling around in a low area after a heavy rain the day before; it’s like “woo hoo, my own personal pond!”

  11. A most beautiful creature! We humans, as the parrots here are aware of, are very plain-looking, and, unlike birds, as we age, we really show our age.

  12. Robins are very awesome birds. However, in the spring, often males fight over territory. The other day, i broke up a fighting pair by saying, “No, guys, no fighting is needed.” 😉
