About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy.       Anne, it was a hot day, not stifling hot, but hot enough, so I think he was cooling off. There had to have been 60-75 geese, all different sizes, all gathered at the shoreline on the rocks and in the water. It was fun to see them – of course, when I got home, they kind of looked like a big blur on the screen.

      I know they are your favorite Kate … wait until you see the rest of them. I think I will have a post just about those geese. There were easily 60-75 geese along the shoreline that day, but only this one soaking his webbed feet in the water. I wondered why his black head is so brown too?! It was all about the mayflies and the geese that day as the mayflies were swarming everywhere.

      Yes it was Debbie! I must have seen 60-75 geese on that shoreline. It was quite a sight to see them clustered in one area, all different sizes, but it was the only goose out soaking its feet like that.

    It is a spot with no obvious food for geese. That guy must be cooling off.

      You’re right Tom – it wasn’t dipping its head underwater for any green plants below the surface, too close to the shoreline so mostly sand and rocks. Yes, it was a warm day and I liked how it was cooling off.

    Great composition with the back water and water and rocks in the foreground – and your subject reminding us of the heatwave while wading – hahaha

    It’s Saturday here and poring down rain! We’re camping and it’s chilly, I think summer is done lol

      The weather this Summer is not acceptable! We’ve had two heat waves and in between it’s been rainy and now the wildfire smoke. Detroit was the worst for air quality in the world on Thursday, but it’s not just the Canadian wildfire smoke, we have wildfires in Minnesota and now there are 12 new ones in the Pacific Northwest, mostly Oregon and Washington State. You are cold and here it is 83 with a real feel of 101 and we are awaiting severe weather later – ugh!

        The wildfires are just going to get worse. Where we are camping right now, the air is good but so many places are bad. We have a severe weather watch, with chance of tornadoes where we live but we’re a few hours away camping and we’re just getting rain

        I did see parts of Ontario might have severe weather. Our severe weather did not materialize in my area yesterday (thankfully), though other areas were hard hit. There was a big lavender festival and severe winds tore through the festival, knocking down vendors’ tents and blowing stuff everywhere. They had to shut it down and evacuate the area. Now I hear we have severe weather again tomorrow night into Tuesday. Even if it doesn’t happen, it is still the thinking about it all day which just frazzles me.

        Yes the weather is not great. I was reading that our local sidewalk sale was closed last Saturday due to weather. We are still camping and the weather hasn’t been great where we are. It feels like September, it’s not hot, and lots of mosquitoes which is not usually normal this time of year ☹️

        We finally had a good weather day, not smoky, hot or humid, but kind of windy. It felt like September as it was in the 60s when I left this morning. I got to three parks – now worn out. 🙂 Driving home on the news first was a man bitten by a poisonous Mississauga Rattlesnake at a boat launch (not my county), then second was they found the first mosquito with West Nile Virus in Wayne County where I live. I Googled to find where and it didn’t say but 96 people have been bitten by a WNV mosquito in 2026 already. Ticks are enough to worry about without mosquitoes and rattlesnakes! I wonder why your mosquitoes are so early – at least you and Clint have the net hoods to keep them away and it’s cold so you’re in long pants and long sleeves. Being outdoors is not for the feint of heart!
