That could be Anne – it had a strange look about it, like it saw a ghost. At first I put it down to the fact that all our waterfowl were molting at the time and it takes a lot out of them, losing the feathers, picking at new feathers and a general malaise and that perhaps it had either resigned itself to feeling poorly or was just exasperated and thought about stepping off that rocky ledge and cooling off by plunging into the water to relieve the itching.

I forgot I had another goose to share when I mentioned the others to you last month. 🙂 It looked as if it was peering in the water at its reflection?

Ha ha – why didn’t I think of that for a title Tom?

This head-tucked look always seems awkward to me, as if the head is out of proportion with the much larger body. But maybe the pose is akin to a human in the fetal position; a way of bringing comfort even if fully exposed to the elements.

Dave, it amazes me how quickly these waterfowl change neck positions – it makes them look like an entirely different bird. I see it in Herons especially; one minute it is craning its long neck, fully outstretched and a minute later, it is up close to their body. Something about this goose did not look right with me.

He doesn’t want to get his body wet…only his feet!
