About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Walking – it’s really a “heady” experience sometimes.

It was a hold-onto-your-hat kind of day since those wicked winds continued to howl and send leaves scattering every which way.  The gusts might have picked my hat from my head and blew it along the street if I hadn’t … Continue reading

The years, like the caissons, go rolling along.

Today was Veterans Day – a time to honor our men and women who fought for this country. In the words of the famous poet Maya Angelou:  “how important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and … Continue reading

When the skies of November turn gloomy…

If you have ever taken a stroll along the water’s edge in Wyandotte (as pictured above), or even on Detroit’s own Riverwalk, you probably will not have to wait too long before a freighter appears on the horizon. Soon the … Continue reading

Monday morning meanderings.

It was another stupendous Fall morning to savor in our memory books once that Wintry weather turns nasty and ugly. While my boss trekked back from Chicago today, I figured I could lollygag a little longer on my own journey, … Continue reading

Grrr and brrr …

Another glorious day … just perfect for walking and raking leaves. The latter task, it seemed, was on everyone’s Sunday agenda. Well I’ve never let those leaves pile up like I did this year. As I mentioned in yesterday post, … Continue reading

An Ode to orange –

It was another glorious Fall day today, albeit a bit blustery. Well, that wind whipping around will snatch the rest of the leaves from the trees, so I can do my raking in one fell swoop tomorrow.  I’ve really procrastinated … Continue reading

Each season is pleasin’.

Here in Southeast Michigan, this week of wonderful weather finds us with nothing to grouse about pertaining to Mother Nature (unless of course you got drenched while trick-or-treating on Saturday night). We’ve had three days running of record-breaking temps, blue … Continue reading

Tuesday trek to the tracks … and back.

Just a handful of days after Halloween and it seems nearly all vestiges of that holiday are gone. The skeletons have returned to their respective closets and the inflatable freaky and frightful characters have been replaced with cumbersome-looking, gigantic turkeys … Continue reading

Hurrah – Fall is regressing again!

We flipped the calendar page to a new month, and flipped the hands of the clock backward. I wish we could have skipped the former and could do more of the latter, don’t you? In the wee hours of the … Continue reading

You go ghoul … er girl.

It’s finally Halloween. For some homeowners, their property has been gaily decorated with freaky or frightening characters since mid-September. As I made my trek down Emmons Boulevard today, I noted many pumpkins, formerly part of harvest displays, have finally been … Continue reading
