About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Cookies for a cause.

Where did this long weekend go? The prospect of a four-day holiday loomed large on Wednesday and suddenly it is Sunday afternoon and I’m wishing it was just Wednesday. The weather here is downright crazy – 62 degrees right now … Continue reading

A mishmash of memories.

Freezing drizzle in the early a.m. kept me housebound this morning. No errands beckoned me to scurry out in that mess and I was happy to linger over breakfast and enjoy that second cup of coffee before getting my day … Continue reading

Away from the madd(en)ing crowd.

It was a petite promenade for me on a rather gloomy-looking morning. It took forever to get light and I stole out the door, knowing I was only going to make a short hop around the ‘hood. The scrapper was … Continue reading

It’s Thanksgiving, so give thanks and stuff thyself!

Now, I could have chosen a picture of a Thanksgiving Day table laden with turkey and the trimmings and groaning with goodies. But, there was no holiday bird for me, so, instead I am sharing shots of the chubby squirrels … Continue reading

Vamoose goose!

Well, it was just like old times as the gloomy morning finally brightened and off I went to Council Point Park. It was nearly two weeks since I’d been here and it sure felt like forever. The sun never did … Continue reading

All about that pace …

It seems like forever that I’ve had an ear worm with the song by Meghan Trainor “All About That Bass” . I first heard it when a Facebook friend in North Carolina shared a picture of a neighbor’s home that … Continue reading

Icy and spicy.

Are you hunkered down inside the house on this gloomy Saturday? The weather sure isn’t conducive for trekking out to buy the vittles for Thanksgiving dinner and I’m sure no one is working on the outside Christmas trimmings either. Despite … Continue reading

It is already just too darn shivery and slickery for me … sigh.

Sadly, Winter does not officially arrive until one month from today. I didn’t miss anything at all by not going outside yesterday; in fact, it might have been a little depressing had I gone. This morning I went outside to … Continue reading

So, who wants to shuffle off to Buffalo?

Like you, I’ve been following the horror stories of the historical snow event in Buffalo … and, it is still snowing. The first decade of my life was spent in Ontario in Canada’s snow belt – our weather mirrored that … Continue reading
