About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

There’s one in every crowd.

What a beautiful Autumn day! I noted all the U of M and MSU flags flying as I walked through the various neighborhoods enroute to Council Point Park this morning. There were a few houses divided as well, flying or … Continue reading

With a quack, quack here and a quack, quack there …

Well, at least the sun peeked out from behind the cloud cover this morning, so I was able to leave a little earlier for a walk and to brave the near-frosty temps. I had to layer up a little more, … Continue reading

All God’s creatures.

My morning got off to a rocky start when I switched on the kitchen light and saw a big brown spider skittering along the narrow ledge of the Formica countertop in front of the stainless steel sink. Well, that wasn’t … Continue reading

Making strides on an awesome Autumn morn …

It was crisp and invigorating this morning when I set out for Council Point Park. The wicked winds from these past few blustery days have whisked alot of the leaves onto the sidewalks and they were all curled up and … Continue reading

Another mist opportunity.

“Oh bother” as Winnie the Pooh would say … though I hate to blather once again about the weather, it was another missed opportunity to go for a walk. Way too many years of trudging to school in the rain … Continue reading

Sojourn to Elizabeth Park.

Another damp and dreary day – wherever does all this rain come from? But, while we Michiganders bemoan day after day of rain, in Montecito, California the drought has languished so long that the City has cut the allotment of … Continue reading

Well here comes trouble …

It sure was dark and gloomy looking this morning when I ventured out for a walk, albeit a short one, since it took forever to lighten up. I am looking forward to the time change and “falling back” on November … Continue reading

It’s Canadian Thanksgiving …

… and Columbus Day as well. There was no walk for this Canuck today since it was a soggy, drizzly early morning, so I decided to grab a little more snooze time. Instead of pumpkin pie, sleeping in was my … Continue reading

Well … hello there Mr. Heron.

When I scurried out the door for my walk this morning, I quickly hurried back into the house to grab a heavier coat after the cold hit me like a ton of bricks. Yikes! The frost is not only on … Continue reading

Ducks on a log.

It was a stellar Saturday weather-wise, and you’ll not hear a comment or complaint from me about the chilly temps. The sun was shining brightly when I left the house, and, as I arrived at the entrance to Council Point … Continue reading
