About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

A tranquil Thursday morn.

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood and beyond. When I left the house early this morning, there was just a whisper of a breeze and it was very quiet in the various neighborhoods as I made my way … Continue reading

A fairy tale and a bunny tail.

It was a gorgeous morning for a walk. I messed up badly yesterday, as once again I relied on our trusty weather people, who said storms would cross our area in the early a.m. I took their word as gospel … Continue reading

Another stellar day in this star-spangled weekend.

The alarm went off and I groaned. Though I am an early riser, the fireworks in the neighborhood were still going off sporadically after I went to bed at midnight. Last night as I curled up in my bed, wide … Continue reading

Musings from my morning constitutional.

You must indulge me annually on the Fourth of July when I use the rather archaic term of “constitutional” to define that morning’s walk. That said, I hit the ground running about 7:30 a.m. to embark on my constitutional, having … Continue reading

Fluff – n- Stuff.

It was not a picture-perfect day like yesterday which I used up running errands and taking advantage of the first of five days off while my boss enjoys a respite at the family cottage in northern Ontario. Well, this morning … Continue reading

Wingin’ it in Wyandotte.

I decided another trip to Wyandotte was in order on this especially muggy morn. I had intended to walk down to the railroad tracks then head back because that is the same amount of walking steps as a roundtrip to … Continue reading

Sizzling alongside the strawberries and salsa.

Whew! It was wicked warm when I departed the house in minimal clothing. The heaviest items I was wearing were my shoes, and, I felt like I was clump, clump, clumping along, like an old horse. I generally like to … Continue reading

Sock hop, doo-wop, flattop, malt shop …

… were all words bouncing around in my head as I walked the Lincoln Park portion of Cruisin’ Downriver this morning. The clock was turned back in time as cars cruised incessantly along Fort Street to the delight of onlookers. … Continue reading

Strollin’ and rollin’ Downriver.

On this fine-lookin’ Friday morning, even more classic cars were rollin’ along the cruise route that follows Fort Street from Southfield Road in Lincoln Park to Sibley Road in Riverview. To boost my walking mileage, I decided to travel via … Continue reading
