About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

Two-fer Tuesday.

I knew it was going to be a beautiful morning so I was up and out the door early since I planned a two-park agenda today. It was cold but the sun felt so good. My feet found the way … Continue reading

Pip, Pip, Cheerio …

… was today’s greeting to the geese at Council Point Park. It was a good-looking morning after a beautiful pinkish-red sunrise and so I set out fairly early to the Park. It was quite nippy out and I am still … Continue reading

Not just another wild goose chase …

Another lackluster weather day for our weekend. The Heavens were conflicted this morning because one minute it was a bruised and angry-looking sky with the occasional sprinkle of rain thrown in for good measure, and then suddenly an expanse of … Continue reading

Another dreary and drippy day.

It didn’t look too inviting when I went outside on this soggy Saturday morn. The gray day and dull-looking sky sure didn’t beckon me to leave the confines of the cozy house. I really didn’t go far as it threatened … Continue reading

Color my world.

Primary colors seemed to be the theme of the day for me. Immediately after stepping outside the door to leave for my walk, I saw red when I discovered robin redbreast and his cohorts had deviously built two new nests. … Continue reading

Weather for ducks.

Well, this weather sure isn’t “ducky” for walking or doing any outside activity unless you have a bill and webbed feet. My friend and neighbor Marge sent me this picture of a gray duck she saw at Elizabeth Park, partly … Continue reading

Ruffled feathers.

Well it was another blustery morning as I headed out of the house and down to Council Point Park. The sky was streaked with gray blotches and there was no hint of sun, just that ever-present wind for the third … Continue reading

Spring has finally sprung, or so it seems…

After struggling for weeks and weeks to arrive, it seems that maybe Spring has finally landed and is here to stay, that is, except for Council Point Park, which is still cloaked in drab colors and post-Winter barrenness. I left … Continue reading

I’d call it serendipity …

… that led me to Council Point Park for the first time one year ago today. Now, I’d heard about the Park before that day, since the local newspaper often featured various events that took place there. In fact, in … Continue reading

Drippy, drizzly weather destroys sidewalk art.

This morning’s raindrops wreaked havoc with my walk – half of it anyway. I guess I’ll take the glass half-full approach and say that half of a walk is better than no walk at all. Anyway, I didn’t stray far … Continue reading
