I love watching them.

Me too Dan. You gotta love squirrels sometimes! It was not hot so that this little squirrel was splooting to cool off. I have written about them doing that in extreme heat or laying on a branch with their legs dangling down. I think he was just relaxing while eating peanuts. 🙂

hahaha that’s a cute photo Linda!

Thanks Susan – it was not hot when I took the photo so he/she was splooting to keep cool. I think it was just relaxing and eating at the same time. 🙂

Our Maltese used to sprawl like this. At first it looked odd enough to be funny, but over time we realized, “Hey, that looks pretty darned comfortable!”

It does look pretty comical Dave and it was not hot so that this squirrel was trying to cool off in the grass – I think it was just relaxing and enjoying the peanut. Made me smile when I saw it. 🙂

He certainly looks comfy. 🙂

Yes Rebecca – he was not doing this because of the heat as it was actually chilly. I guess he was just relaxing with a peanut, but it made me smile. 🙂

it must have wanted to cool it’s tummy!

Well, I have to tell you Wayne, it was chilly … I had a coat on that day I took the photos, so it was splooting, but just to relax and not cool off. It made me smile when I saw it … like eating peanuts was strenuous!

then I guess it felt very comfortable!

We are having a real heat wave here now Wayne – got to 90 today and yesterday, same for Friday and Saturday. I didn’t see many squirrels out this morning and none were splooting. Believe it or not the grass has gone to seed and was at least a foot high, so I couldn’t see the squirrels even if they were standing on haunches. I was a little disgusted that the grass was that long. I did see a big painted turtle but it’s head was pulled into its shell. Guess it was sunbathing.

Ha! I feel just like this squirrel at times. Perfect pose! Nothing better than snacking while lying down.

Me too Laurie. It wasn’t hot out that it was splooting to cool off in the grass; nope, just relaxing and snacking at the same time. 🙂

Miss Linda………………………………….Ha…….Ha………Ha……….looks like he’s cooling off in this sudden heat and munching on his favorite treat!!

Ann Marie – it was such a funny pose here. It was actually a cool day so I’m not sure why he was relaxing to munch on his favorite treat. It sure made me smile when I saw him though. 🙂

We do Ann Marie – the squirrel stretched out like that looked funny to me too. I’ve seen goslings eating while sitting on the grass, but not stretched out. How are your goslings doing – getting big? I think ours may have left for the River. No parents or goslings and lots of big feathers in the Park. When they start molting, they lose their flight feathers and paddle with their goslings down to the Detroit River.

He was a real cutie-patootie and he was not doing this as it was hot. This was about a month ago on a cold morning.

Wow – that makes the photo that much more interesting!

I know – I thought so too Shelley. You could understand if it was hot and it was splooting. Speaking of “hot” – wasn’t today wonderful weather after almost a week of all that heat? (Yes, I complained about the heat … didn’t take long did it??) I went to three parks today – just gorgeous!

We had one gorgeous day that must’ve found its way to you. I’m glad you got to three parks to enjoy it!!! Watch out…the next few hot ones are complain-about-the-heat-worthy kind of days! 🥵🔥🥵

Yesterday was pretty awesome Shelley … getting kind of warm again though. Sigh. Your state sent four special firemen to help battle our big (2,400 acre) wildfire up north. The sun this morning was orange from that wildfire up north and the Quebec wildfires. It looked like it would pour any minute. Pretty amazing.

Yes, it’s getting warm!
Hmm, we knew about the Quebec fires, but didn’t know that MI had some too. Glad our firemen were available to help.
The air quality warnings have been very high here. The sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous but sad reminders of the fires.

Yes, I went out Monday morning; it was about 7:45 and the sun was a brilliant pinky-orange and the sky was like dusk. Some people said they could even smell the smoke. I heard it is 100% contained now. There are warnings galore not to make a campfire as that is how this one got started.

Yes, the morning sky is beautiful. We’re still having poor air quality issues from some fire, some where. I’m glad to read the MI fire is 100% contained. It’s sad when people to take the warnings seriously.

It was dark again when I left this morning – today was our worst air quality day so far and luckily it was cool enough in the house that the A/C did not have to be on and pull the smoke into the house. Yes it is sad … we are expecting rain Saturday into Sunday, then Monday and Tuesday.

Yes, the cooler temps help and so will the rain!!

It is actually pretty cool in the house today – I had a sweatshirt on and no A/C and truthfully, I could have used the heat!

I love how he/she stretches his/her back legs out. My corgis do the same when lying down like that.

He/she looks pretty comfortable to enjoy those peanuts. They do it in the Summer to cool off but this was actually taken when it was still cool out. The corgis have such short legs, it must look funny – all body, tiny legs.

Nice photo! Oh to be a squirrel with a peanut. Living the life, eh?

Thanks Ally! Sometimes when I hand a squirrel a peanut or two, they will pause momentarily, brain gears clicking – do I eat both, hide one? It is such a small gesture for us, yet they will climb up a tree to eat it, or go clear across the Park to take it away. Yes, for them … living the life. This squirrel cracked me up … how to relax and snack simultaneously.
