About Linda Schaub

This is my first blog and I enjoy writing each post immensely. I started a walking regimen in 2011 and in 2013 I decided to create a blog as a means of memorializing the people, places and things seen on my daily walks. I have always enjoyed people watching, so my blog is peppered with folks I meet or reflections of characters I have known through the years. Often something piques my interest, or evokes a pleasant memory from my memory bank, so this becomes a “slice o’ life” blog post. I respect and appreciate nature and my interactions with Mother Nature’s gifts is also a common theme. Sometimes the most-ordinary items become fodder for points to ponder over and touch upon. I retired in March 2024 after a career in the legal field. I was a legal secretary for almost 45 years, primarily working in downtown Detroit, then working from my home. I graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in Mass Communications (print journalism) in 1978, though I’ve never worked in that field. I would like to think this blog is the writer in me finally emerging!! Walking and writing have met, shaken hands and the creative juices are flowing in Walkin’, Writin’, Wit & Whimsy. I hope you think so too. - Linda Schaub

What a lucky squirrel! I wonder if someone handed out fresh berries to some of your squirrel friends or it was a happy accident. It must have been extra nice during this cold season where they don’t get a lot of fresh. I think he’s wondering if you’re going to try to take it from him.

It was so cute Zazzy! I do think it was giving me the side-eye like I would take it from under its nose. I know that in late September/early October, someone kept dropping off different types of squash and sweet corn and leaving them around the Park. I guessed at that time they shut down their garden and had all the leftovers and so took them there. They got eaten too. Some pumpkins brought there after Halloween were also eaten by the squirrels. I’m thinking a walker must have brought this treat, although I didn’t see any other squirrels with strawberries. I hoped it didn’t drop strawberry pieces or juice on its bright white fur and stain it.

Oh my, that tail goes on for miles. It’s a wonder he/she doesn’t trip over it!

Isn’t that amazing Dave? That gray squirrel is not all that big to have such a luxurious, long, furry tail like that. When I took the picture I thought “well I hope it doesn’t move as it is sitting there with a perfect pose, between the tail stretched out and daintily eating the strawberry.” 🙂

I would rather have a strawberry any day! There is another kind soul in your vicinity dispensing treats to your squirrels?

That strawberry looked delicious Laurie! I was surprised to see the squirrel(s) have another benefactor doling out treats to them and a generous treat at that – this was in October, so not from their garden. I figured people would think it was my doing, so I had to come clean!

Yes and it looked pretty pleased with itself for being so lucky. 🙂

I am glad it enjoyed it and didn’t try to bury it. The squirrels are still burying peanuts … they’ll grab a nut, run with it and bury it, then return to eat another one.
